Is island life good for kids?
I just thought of something. We take my 9 year old neice and my 7 yearold nephew for 2 months every summer while their parents are away. Or rather want to get away from the kids. Is there going to be anything on st croix for the squirts to do? Other than swim since niether has ever learned....mom is afraid of something happening in the water...
Thanks
Tanya
Tanya,
Perhaps you can enroll them in swimming lessons when they visit you so that there is less likelihood of "something happening in the water." Most people who live on the islands were born and reared on the islands so there is obviously plenty to do for people of all ages. Still, the beach is an endless source of fun for kids so swimming lessons seem essential.
Three words:
Beer Drinking Pigs.
It won't solve your quest for activites for more than a few hours (including having lunch or dinner out), but the reviews from the adults who have seen these porkers partake of potent potables have all said it was quite the memorable, and laugh-filled, experience.

Tanya,
You may want to check the summer programs available at some of the local private schools, notably St. Croix Country Day School. Every summer, CDS makes its campus available for a wide variety of activities ranging from swimming to computer technology. There is an olympic-size swimiing pool on the campus, along with a smaller wading pool for non-olympians.
The program is extremely well-run, and will most decidedly keep your squirts busy...and they will get to meet a rather diverse group of other squirts their age as well.
You can call CDS at 778-1974 to get more information about the summer camp, or you can visit their website at http://www.stxcountryday.com.
There are other summer programs, but this is the one that first comes to mind.
