Is Coconuts, the bar in Fredricksted, still open?
When I drove by yesterday it was closed. I've noticed for years that Coconuts has only a handful of customers during the day compared to all the bars near it and have always wondered why.
In all fairness I've never been by in the evening so perhaps it's popular at night?
Their lease was not renewed. They closed a little over a month ago.
Closed - coconut vine roumors say that they will reopen with that Chris dude and investors but I also heard that's falling through. Who knows the real story.
Pop on over to Freedom city surf. Good food, great drinks with live music and movie nights... and if ya go on Tuesdays ya get a pretty awesome bartender 😉
Best pace to get details on what's happening is their facebook page.
freedom city is pretty good
Wasn't there a big condo development going in over there? I was never a fan of Coconuts. Didn't like the vibe there.
It's been said that the former owners of Coconuts are moving off island.
They are and had a going away event on Saturday.
Too bad. Loved that place. Quiet and casual. Good food and drinks.
They cooked their food in microwaves. Had to go to kitchen for ice for individual drinks, no coolers in bar area. Bathrooms were in shambles. Patio dining area was never swept. I'm guessing you hadn't been in a year or so. Horrible customer service. Even with just 5 people sitting at the bar and no one in patio area, had to wave to get attention for another drink. Being run like that, it was just a matter of time it went out of business.
Great location, hope someone can lease it and get it going like the old Latitudes when they were there.

The bad service and dirt was our experience too, with two visits about 4 or 5 years ago, after having gone previously with no problems. So we never went back. It's a great location and setup. It could be a success with the right management.
We went once, last year I think, service was non-existent, never returned.
