Is anyone staying?
I would love to come back. It is the hands of HOVENSA to make a move and get some cooperation from the VI Govt.
Mapp has instructed the AG to file suit against Hess, Hovensa, and PDVSA and to place an order forbidding the sale or transfer of any assets. Meaning the refinery and everything inside.
Stick a fork in it Rowdy, it's done.

First time hearing this! Has it been announced publicly?
Yes. He had a press conference this morning.
Thanks. I had no intention of listening, but will read about it in tomorrow's papers.
So this blocks any potential for a sale as long as it's in litigation? What info does he have that hasn't been revealed? What does he think Hovensa owes us?
Will check internet sources...

As we say over the two-way radios: 10-4
I guess I did good in accepting the job offer and flying out the first week of December.
I wonder whatever happened to Monarch. All the ads and videos, and all the talk. Oh well, probably trying to buy a refinery in Cuba...
Makes me sad to see so many leaving, whether it's a choice or due to lack of jobs... I read on another forum that quite a few people are leaving. I'm starting to wonder if there will be anyone left by the time I get there. Jah, do you plan on ever returning? For what it's worth, your posts' thus far have been incredibly helpful to me, so thank you for taking the time to get on here and comment while you were there. No doubt you've helped many people. Wish you the best on your new journey in life!
Thanks for the good wishes 🙂 I am glad that I was able to help in some small way!
I am leaving so that I can be gainfully employed, but my roots remain here (family, house, etc.) In some ways, it will become a long-distance commute.
What did it for me was the frustration of applying for jobs for which I am fully qualified, but which the firms that post the jobs at DOL have no intention of hiring anyone for. One firm has been posting the same "job" under different names for years, while ignoring resumes. As long as DOL is happy, they can continue to qualify for benefits, I guess. Bottom line is, do whatever you need to do to take care of your family.
When I started one of my previous jobs I went home to fill out the paperwork and noticed I had an odd job title. I asked about it the next day and was told straight-up they do that because of the DOL - if they posted the actual job I'd be doing on the DOL website the previous guy they laid off would go straight to the DOL and sue just like previous employees had. It is my suspicion that most of those non-minimum wage jobs have been filled by word of mouth before the job was even posted online.
After 8 years on STT I'll be leaving in August. I'll miss some things, and others not but as others have said, I've got an offer in the states that so good it's forced me to take a closer look at the things we put up with here, and it looks like it's just time to move on. Good luck.
Would anyone have any information on IT jobs? And I mean any info...and on any of the islands.. even pointing me in the direction of someone who possibly has info would be helpful.
And Jah, a help in a huge way to those of us relocating and uprooting our lives, haha. I'm sure it can be obnoxious (or any number of feelings) to those of you already living there or that have grown up there being bombarded with questions from those of us trying to relocate to the islands... the suggestions, advice --all of it-- are greatly appreciated!
Just think. For every 2 people that leave, the taxes used to pay one low level GVI employee are lost.
Hell, in some cases it's one private salary that pays for one GVI salary.

With what money? They never had the $350 million that they claimed. That was all false.

Maybe your internet sources can tell you why Coffelt resigned after Mapp ordered to foreclose against Hovensa?
IMHO, HOVENSA may still be willing to sell, if a solid buyer with plenty of $$$ shows up and knocks on the door. Hess is now an exploration company, among other things, and it is not in their best interest to hold on to a useless and quickly decaying asset that will lead to new environmental problems.
Monarch "migrated", apparently...

A big part of the reason we're leaving is that the IT jobs are drying up fast. The holding company I work for is on their last leg and STT might lose 4 very large businesses in the next 6 months that I work for and Glacial Energy is pulling out. Working for Innovative is an option but I have several friends that have gotten out because they are hellish to work for. If you can send me your resume and you have the right talents I might be able to help, but honestly it's looking bleak right now. For general "Geek Squad" stuff there's a market, we haven't had a solid general computer support company for the entire time I've lived here, but not sure how well it would pay off. PM me.

I heard about the "staffing issue" a few days ago, but the details that I heard have not been reported so I'm not going to repeat them since I have no documentation.
One thing the VI is good for is drama!

Seems to look as if Mapp used Coffelt for support during the runoff, but once in the job she realized he was bringing in some unsavory characters?
And if his toned down version of a "Chucky" he is using on Hovensa is indicative of anything then it's pandering to his base and we are all in for a bloody long 4 years. Coffelt probably didn't agree with his approach to waste resources on lawsuits. I mean all this BS about environmental issues when 99+% of it was already re-mediated is pure crap. It's only about the 40mill the government was counting on.
Any AG must have absolute control over their domain, otherwise they can't uphold the law when it involves going after those already in power.
Thank you, trainwreck and speee1dy! Much appreciated!

When that sought-after money fails to materialize he can blame that on his fiscal inability to provide those promised 1000 additional government jobs.
you are very welcome
