Ipod repair Stx?
Does anyone know of who does Ipod repair on STX?
My headphone port on my Ipod Touch 8G (touch screen, not roll wheel) is no longer working. (The headphones are fine) I tried cleaning the port, resetting the Ipod and finally, restoring everything to factory settings, but the port no longer works.
I use my Ipod constantly for working out and can't imagine being without it! Any ideas?
Wondering how you cleaned the jack? If you haven't done so try a squirt of tuner/contact cleaner immediately folowed by pushing the headphone plug in and out of the jack several times to "brush" the contact surfaces.

We've done several DIY repairs on our iPods, mostly changing the battery. We buy the parts on eBay, because they ship USPS. A professional, authorized Apple repair can be very expensive, so if we can't fix it ourselves, we buy a new one (or rather, a used one, again on eBay). However, there are companies who will just do a battery replacement for a reasonable price, if you don't want to DIY.
The computer repair shop in golden rock was an authorize apple repair center last time I was in there, which was at least a year ago. I think it's called paradise something.
Another vote for DIY. There are vast numbers of video tutorials online which will show you how to do almost anything inside an idevice.

That sounds like PC Paradise, in the Easterly building. 773-9227. They're usualy god, but last time I used them for a PC repair in March 2010, a simple repair took almost 2 weeks because of staffing problems, and because later customers got ahead of us by paying an emergency fee. So try to pin them down on timing.
About the DIY videos: Also search on your iPod model name, to help narrow it down.
Hi Guys,
THank you all for the good advice... The Ipod is only about three months old. I am nervous about trying to fix it myself. I will see if I know someone who can change out the headphone port. Thank you!

It's under warranty then. Did you call Apple?
No, after the web site said I was not covered and would have to be charged for a call, I didn't... maybe I will try them anyway... good idea, Eric!
Ah ha... so it is still under warranty, however, since I don't live in the U.S, they can not ship the repair package to me to ship back to them. Argh.
I am going to try PC Paradise.
Or get somebody with a stateside address to pretend to be the owner for you.
IIRC there is a warranty-voiding moisture detector directly beneath the jack port, so the warranty issue might be moot anyway.
You're still covered by the US warranty. I would escalate it to a tier 2 rep and have them over ride their ussual fedex or ups to ship USPS. They have to offer it for PO boxes, rural routes, APOs. Etc. Ot like said before, have someone state side act as the intermediary. This is the only thing I could find on apple.com but it relates to iPhones.

Computer Solutions in Gallows Bay is authorized Apple retailer.
