Hello All,

My name is Kenneth. My wife, Julia, and I are beginning to plan for our retirement. These are long term plans (10 years). We are seriously considering St. Croix as a permanent retirement location. We are actively investigating the history, life style, government and environment of St. Croix. While we have never visited the US Virgin Islands, however we are attracted to them because they are US. Our plans are to visit next year for our twentieth anniversary to experience the island first hand and look at prospective land investments. We have zeroed in on St. Croix because our research has lead us to believe that it has a “small town” feel as opposed to the “big city” feel of St. Thomas. We now live in Ft. Worth, Texas and are looking forward to getting back to our small town roots.

We have read the “Settler’s Handbook” which provides a mountain of general information and we read the Virgin Island Daily News regularly. I keep an eye on the MLS too. We have several maps which are a handy reference to the estates and major roads referenced in the news and MLS. We have many questions which we will ask in other postings. We just wanted to introduce ourselves to the group and express our interest in St. Croix.

Ken & Julia,

Welcome from a new Crucian. My wife and I "retired" here two months ago. We love it. Feel free to email me directly with questions, although asking them on this board is a great idea. There are many experts here. This board was extremely helpful in our move.

HI MY HUSBAND And i have retired here 2 months ago and have personally met ric via forum your idea of a 10 year plan is actually what we did also consider subscribing to"island news" we subscribed to it for almost 8 years a TRULEly realistic perspective on the pluses and minues of living here the newsleter describes itself as "information for property owners, prospective property owners,or those interested in retiring in the us virgin islands' i wish you good luck your reasons for retiring here are very similar to what ours were the island is not w/o its faults BUT IT IS PARADISE UNDER THE US FLAG and the pluses far exceed the trade off of the mineses when you can be surrpounded by natural beauty on a daily basis in a small town somw whAT RURAL SETTING ... feel free to email us personally i think you are headed in the right direction good luck

That is a great post by Linda!! I sat here at my &*%$ desk as I read it wondering why I'm here!! *LOL*
Kenneth, I also am from Fort Worth and hoping to be in St. Croix in 6 yrs. or at least own property to where we can be there 3 or 4 months out of the year. I have been gathering all sorts or info, such as the Settlers Handbook and feel I know a lot about the place already.
We will be visiting in May/June time frame and counting down the months and days.
Still looking for a great villa or condo(no resort) to stay to where we can be close to beach and also local hang outs so we can converse and talk to people at night while sitting outside having drinks and a burger. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
I have some suggestions from a couple of people, but will take any others.

YL,
Check out the Waves at Cane Bay. They have a website. It's on the north shore. There are four decent restaurants almost within walking distance, plus Cane Bay Beach which is terrific. It's also only 2 or 3 miles from Carambola.
