Internet & TV Service Providers
Hi.
We are almost finished building our house in Estate Smith Bay and need to hook up TV and internet. So far I've been using a wireless air card with AT&T, which works great, but we plan to have rental guests who will need internet access and want to watch TV. Any recommendations on which companies are best to use? Thanks a bunch!

We use Innovative with a wireless router. That gives all the tenants internet.
As far as TV is concerned you only have two choices. Innovative or Direct. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. We use Innovative.

Ummmm....Dish Network is the only way to get HD in the Virgin Islands....and once you've seen HD, there's no going back.
and I'm a little too biased to answer the Internet question 🙂
Yes, Dish network is the only way to provide "stateside" quality TV to a place. This includes HD and a DVR. You now only need a 30" dish to get it and the startup cost is pretty reasonable now that the equipment is so much smaller. Look for SkysTheLimit who sells Dish on this forum and PM, he will help I'm sure.
DirecTV is the Latin American/PR feed so your commercials will be in Spanish and it's not really a stateside experience. Innovative is way behind, think Digital Cable circa 1996.

Actually most of the commercials on DirecTV are in English on the English language channels. You will get some in Spanish and you'll know it because the volume DOUBLES - very annoying. Otherwise I agree with everything else you wrote. I only stick with DirecTV because I must have the NFL package.
I also have Innovative basic cable so I we can get good laughs at the local "news" broadcast. I haven't seen the pricing for the latest Dish service but given I'm dying without HD I hope I don't learn of drastically reduced installation pricing or I'm going to have a hodge-podge of every TV service coming into my house!

Think of it as Hybrid! Not hodge podge.:-)
I have clients who have Dish, Direct, and Innovative, Dish as primary, Direct for NFL or MLB,, and Innovative for locals.
I have several business clients who have Hughesnet, Choice, and Innovative for internet.

What is the going price for Hughesnet? And is it any faster? How big is the dish?
I'm fed up with innovative. Broadband told me their service would work at my house but it didn't at all and they didn't figure that out until they put holes in my roof. Luckily I hadn't discontinued innovative.
