Internet service
Hello everyone! Moved to STT five weeks ago and am settling in and adapting to island life. My only hangup is internet service. I'm currently with MSN; however, dial-up service is extremely slow, and they tell me there's no high-speed, broadband or whatever available here. (I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computers, and the only broadband I know is my waistline from all that Cruzan rum.) Anyway, I'm told Earthlink has a local access number; however, when I call the toll-free number and visit their website, I get a big, fat NO. Do any of you subscribe to Earthlink, and if so, can you tell me how to sign up? Any other ISP's you can recommend other than AOL? I'd be very appreciative, because as beautiful as this island is, I still need to keep in touch with the folks back home. Thanks!
I can tell you our experience on St. Croix. We have dial-up through Innovative, the phone company. It was easy to get (an hour in their offices here), cheap ($45 or so for 3 months) and it seems to work fine for us. It is about the same speed as the dial-up we had in Kentucky. We use it mostly to surf the web and for e-mail and it is working ok.
We use Surbest.net. Only $10.95 unlimited and we have never had a dropped call or busy signal. I am even able to download without speed issues. Also, no annoying spam and/or ads, just your basic efficient ISP.
Dont use Earthlink.
Thats what I use.
There is only one number for STT and STJ.
There IS DSL available, but only in certain areas. Have you tried VI Powernet?
