Interesting Statistics re 4,000 Iraq war deaths
Time Magazine has a chart in the April 7th issue that I found interesting:
Highest Fataity Rates
Soldiers killed per 100,000 residents of home state or territory
Deaths Rate
Samoa 7 12.14
Mariana Islands 5 5.91
USVI 6 5.53
Palau 1 4.80
Guam 6 3.46
Vermont 19 3.06
Micronesia 3 2.78
Alaska 17 2.49
Of the total 4,000 - 30% were 21 and under, 54% were 24 and under and 79% were 30 and under.
Sobering Statistics
I wonder what the lowest fatality rates were?
I hope the war is over soon, but when I see this, I'm reminded of the Iraqi people...
Saddam Hussein, killed by, listed by group
-----------------------
Baghdad Civilians: 61,000+
Halabja Civilians: 3,200+
Kurdish Civilians: 180,000+
Shiite Civilians: 60,000+
Miscellaneous Civilians Executions: 50,000+ (Humans right officials estimate 500,000+ - 10 times the official estimate)
Iraqi Politicians: 1,000,000+
Iran-Iraq War: 1,000,000+
Deaths estimated due to sanctions for Saddam's defiance of international community: 1,000,000+
All told, Saddam Hussein is personally responsible for 2.3 to 3.3 million deaths depending on whether you see the sanctions as his fault or the rest of the world's fault.
That's not to say that we've done a good job planning in Iraq, but the world is surely better without Saddam.
God bless our troops! Bring them home safe when Iraq is safe.
