interesting in moving
I am a veteran and my husband is disabled. We have section 8 and want to know if we can use it on any of the U.S. virgin islands
Lots of rentals, specifically, don't take section 8.
Maybe someone else who has more knowledge can address this.
I would make sure that your husband's disability and healthcare insurance carries over to VI.
Otherwise, you'll be out of luck unless you work for the VI Government or a company here that provides it or can get Medicare or Medicaid. Even that could take awhile so best to check it all out, in advance.
The other things to consider is that if you should need surgery, you'll probably have to go off island depending on procedures.
VA sends people to Puerto Rico for many procedures.
A friend who lives here in VI has to have specialized surgery and it's only provided for in Gainesville. There are challenges to living in the VI.
Be prepared.
there are apartments based on income here in the usvi. maybe contact your local office to see if you can transfer. i know someone who transferred to north carolina from maryland . also you could look online at our local phone book to start making phone calls.

just look for apartments and call to see about transferring.
but also remember the cost of living is higher here. you might not be real happy with no air conditioning in the dead of summer-which we are coming upon. food can be higher ( up to 30% or more depending on what you eat)
do you have children living at home with you?
the VA hospital is in Puerto Rico and not here.
a lot of people move back stateside if they have certain health issues.
please do some more reading here to see if any other questions might be answered.

Section 8 is available, but many places that take it have a long waiting list. Alana and speedy's questions are very important to answer before you consider making the move.
Puerto Rico is a very nice place to live and probably has significantly more Section 8 housing available.
