Innovative Telephone Business Land Line - STX

I have been having terrible problems with my Innovative Business telephone line for 2 weeks. Finally had a technician come out today. He stated there was no problem with my line. Loud hum on line, static and breaking up. Also unable to send out faxes. When I asked why I could not send faxes to a state side fax line (not an 800 #), he said it was because my fax machine was not programmed correctly. Really? I've been using this same fax machine for years. I even went out and bought a new fax machine and it gives me a print out that says "poor line quality". Innovative says there's nothing wrong. Is anyone else on St. Croix having problems sending faxes to state side numbers? I investigated eFax services, but they are not available in the Virgin Islands. Any other ideas on how I can send faxes to the states without having to pay $2 a page at Office Max. I fax daily to the states.

Just had a private contractor come out and determine that the problem IS with Innovative. I do not have a problem at my location. It's from the pole going out on their main line. Now I have to go back and deal with Innovative. Sheesh!

You might consider eFax.com. If you have a good quality Internet connection, you should be fine.

After investigating eFax, they do not have any 340 #'s going thru a server to service our area. Any other suggestions?

I was going to suggest cutting the cord with a local phone number for $20/month:

but alas, it does not work with faxes.
Question, who uses fax in this day and age?
Scan and email is so much easier.

We had same problem with our landline on WI. LOUD humming noise, static, could hear other people's conversations. Techician came out multiple times for over a year. After many times of hearing just before the technician left, "It should work now", "problem gone", "must be de inside" (my spouse is a former telephone system installer and we KNOW it wasn't the INSIDE).........we cancelled the service and have been using cell phone as our primary and only telephonic connection. "problem gone"!

If you need to "fax", I agree with Beeski. I work from home and if I need to "fax" something, I scan the document(s) into my HP Office jet that can be connected wirelessly or wired, it sends the document to my PC, I save it as a PDF file and send it via email to the intended recipient.

Realize you probably would like to have a working number for your business though. Consider terminating Innovative and get a business/company cell phone. Just a suggestion.

I'm sure the rain hasn't helped with your line. I know when it rains alot our phone line becomes full of static.
I noticed the same problem you are having with my fax machine. If the line has static in it then it will not send a fax. It says line error. I will have to wait until the lines dry out before it works again.
I now scan and email everything. So much easier.
Good Luck!

My wife (and your neighbor) uses FaxZero (free internet fax service) to fax stuff to the states when our phone line is down (which it is right now) and has never had an issue with it. You can't fax to anywhere in the VI but from the VI to the states it works well. Here is a link to it:

Why people still bother with Innovative is beyond me. There are so many better options.

One reason people still use Innovative is that if you advertise in the phone book you are required to have a land line, even if you don't list the land line in your ad and use your cell phone number instead. I just cancelled our land line and then had to reinstate it because of that reason, which makes no sense to me from a business standpoint but their billing process requires a land line to link to.

When you have had the same phone number forever, it's hard to let go.
I just had people I haven't seen in 20 yrs. or normally hear from contact me yesterday, which they would not have been able to do
if I did not have the same number. Loooking forward to seeing them and catching up on life in SF Bay area this afternoon before
they head out on Sat. to go sailing for a week.

Hate Innovative but what do you do? Luckily, these people called when my phone was actually working!
A small blessing.;)

You do not have to give up your telephone number anymore when you switch carriers.
