I am getting SO sick of this!!! Seems like at least two or three times a week the cable goes out for at least several hours. (I would LOVE to get satellite but it's not permitted by my condo association.) Cable's been out all day this time. Anyone else?

Condo associations and Homeowner associations cannot deny your request for a satellite dish per FCC rules

The rule (47 C.F.R. Section 1.4000) has been in effect since October 1996, and it prohibits restrictions that impair the installation, maintenance or use of antennas used to receive video programming. The rule applies to video antennas including direct-to-home satellite dishes that are less than one meter (39.37") in diameter (or of any size in Alaska), TV antennas, and wireless cable antennas. The rule prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal.

Bombi. What you offered is true. However a condo association can have rules in place that limits or restricts any attachment to the building structure. Normally the association owns the shell and the individual owners, own the inside of the units. Our Condo Assoc. has that rule. And to get something like a dish installed on the building would need to be approved by the board.

So, unless there is a "sky hook" handy, a dish might not be feasible.

Interesting...according to the FCC rule that Bombi quoted, the association can't prohibit installation:

"...prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal.

Thanks Bombi!!!

As a condo manager, I have been through this, the BOD or association can designate a place, the place must be able to receive the appropriate signal but you CANNOT be denied, federal law, period.

Call me at Paradise Satellite 340-718-2488
I'll be happy to discuss options and conduct a site survey. Maybe with a good plan we can convince the board.
We currently have permission and systems at the following condos.
Carden Beach
Saman
and Sweetlime at Carambola
Questa Verde
Coakley Bay
The Reef
Carlton Condos
Plantation at Southgate
Southgate Courtyards
And a few others.
We also service major hotels, bars, restaurants, doctors offices etc....

We try to be sensitive with our Dish placements and share dishes whenever feasible so everyone doesn't require a dish. We honor the wishes of the association and work closely with them to ensure happy clients.

Hi folks and thanks for the input. I'm at Sugar Beach. The Owners' Meeting is next week, so I'm definitely going to bring this up. Alan, I'll give you a call in the next day or two--thanks.
