Import Tax on Appliances ?
Good afternoon guy's - hope you are all having a fantastic "hump" day 🙂
Does anyone know what the tax would be on appliances made in Europe? I am remodelling our kitchen and am at the research stage and have found appliances I like (Bosch) but obviously they are not made in the US - does anyone know by chance what the tax is on non US made appliances should I decide to container them from Florida.
Thanks for your help everyone
Pia
Are you SURE that Bosch is not made in the US? Seems like I called they company and the one I bought was made in North Carolina or thereabouts.
When I recently remodeled I went through the same thing. Often the manufacturer gave me incorrect info about the location of manufacture. One notable example was my floor tile. The manufacturer was Crossville. When I called I was told that the tile I wanted was manufactured in the US.
When the tile arrived each box clearing stated "manufactured in Argentina" (or wherever; don't remember)
I have a Bosch dishwasher. I think it actually was made in the US.
Anyway, you have to call each company, ask about specific products, and then hope that the person you are speaking with knows what they are talking about. Then flip a coin to determine the answer.
Thanks so much Jules - you are 100% correct all made in NC - wooo hooo
I never would have thought that......new appliances soon come (hopefully :))

Yay! Have fun with your remodeling! Which island are you on?
Oh, and as to your original question, I think that the tax for non US made goods is 6%. I recall paying a total of 10% in customs/duty/excise/whatever-it's-called taxes for my remodeling supplies that were foreign-made. 4% personal use, 6% foreign-made.
I *think* they no longer charge the 4% personal use tax-- apparently that happened just AFTER I finished my big project.
We are on STJ - oh the fun of finding new appliances and then finding who will drop ship them to Tropical - any ideas 🙂

I bought most of my appliances and fixtures from Home Click and Ira Woods.
Bought local when possible (not often possible). Interiors at Ft Mylner does carry some interesting lines.
I planned and ordered the bulk of my appliances and fixtures at one time and had them shipped to Tropical in Miami. They were then shipped to the STT Tropical warehouse. Since I did not fill a container, things went to the LCL warehouse (Less Than Container-full warehouse). I had a local trucking company deliver the stuff. Not sure how you handle it from STT to STJ but obviously it is done on a regular basis.
All in all, it was only a moderately painful process.
I use Sears. Watch the sales, plus they often have a rebate for delivery, and sell lots of brands. Make sure you have a note not to uncrate...you want the box. Just need the address for Tropical in Riviera Beach. There's also some company that advertises sometimes in the Avis--cabinets, appliances etc supposedly on the same street in FL
Hmmm, looks like Home Click is not doing well. I just browsed their site and there's hardly any content when you click on categories. They used to have a great selection of major appliances. Sorry 'bout that.
We bought new appliances this past September from BrandsMart in West Palm Beach and had them shipped to St. Croix via Tropical Shipping. They have a large selection, the lowest prices we found, and the salesman we had was familiar with shipping via Tropical and handled everything with no problems, including no sales tax since they were coming to St. Croix. I think they charged $50 to deliver everything to Tropical Shipping.
