immigration restrictions?
Are there any regulations (such as some sort of immigration restriction) that would prohobit a friend of mine who is on one of the BVIs from picking me up with his own boat on St. Thomas and then heading back to Tortola or wherever we desire from that point? He is a US citizen who moors his boat in the BVI. If not, is there some specific marina we should use to meet, or does it not matter? What marina is closest to the St. Thomas airport?
Your friend can pick you up most anywhere but must clear customs either on St. John at the Cruz Bay car ferry dock or in Charlotte Amalie at the sea plane dock area. Then if you are heading back to Tortola you must check in with BVI customs at one of the various locations so be sure to allow time to reach these locations while customs are still open. Sadly, the days of "forgetting to check in" are over and the enforcement of such laws in greater than before. It is not worth running the risk to save a few dollars and a little bit of time. Be sure to have a birth certificate with a raised seal and a photo id, a VI Voters Registration Card (it also serves as a photo id and proof of citizenship as it refers to your Birth Certificate on the back) or a Passport. Your friend must have a valid passport to enter.
