If We Really want to end Crime in the USVI
Here's the problem with the police. It's not a lack of cars, bad cops, funding, etc. It's the MORAL CODE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS! It's a CARDINAL SIN to snitch, or accuse a non-white Virgin Islander of a crime, which is what police are doing when they roll up on a guy committing a crime. The police have two choices: violate the code of the island and be ousted by their friends and family OR tell the thief he better leave quick before anyone sees him. In the case of the guy caught red-handed ransacking my house is was a bit awkward for them so they put him in the car and told me there's nothing they can do since he didn't take anything or kill anyone, and let him go a couple blocks away. This is why is takes them 45 minutes to arrive on the scene. They might only be a mile away, but they want to be sure the perp has time to get finished and leave before they get there. This guy was just too slow!
It is the God-Given right of all ANVI's to TAKE WHAT THEY WANT from the white man because they have suffered so long (BS). No VI policeman is going to deny them that right.
Here's your solution: Remove the badges of every officer on all 3 islands. Keep them on the payroll since you can't fire a government employee. Now, bring down veteran cops from the Bronx, L.A., Chicago, Detroit, and Houston. Crime would be gone in 6 months and we wouldn't have to worry about where to store the perps. There's plenty of land at the cemetary.
Did you hear about the two guys who ran from the cops in F'sted, stopped in front of the cruiser, got out of the car, HAD TIME TO OPEN THE TRUNK AND GRAB AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON, and ran away? What kinda crap is this?! Those men should have been dead before they ran 6 feet with that weapon. But noooo, now we have two thugs running around with an AK47 knowing they are above the law.
Makes me sick.
We need the Border Patrol in the VI's to help keep drugs, guns out.
Bringing in off-island cops won't work until they give them the same sort of legal protection shield that officers in the mainland always have. As I recall this was the reason the ATF left.
The Puerto Ricans called out the National Guard to help them fight crime there (see article) I wonder if that's coming here or not
Interesting. If my mental math is right the USVI has 3 times the murder rate per capita as Puerto Rico. 3 times... and they activated the National Guard. Maybe we need to deploy Special Forces in the USVI...
Not sure if it's accurate but I do get the sense that the violence in Puerto Rico hits more innocent/random people than it does in USVI which may explain the urgency of activating the National Guard until they can hire more police.
