It is, if you look at the pics in the link I posted upthread for the Norway one.

No one in the Caribbean will pay 32 bucks for a drink.

She's charging NOK 65 in Norway for adult admission. Converted to USD 65 Norwegian Kroner is $11.48. She wants to charge $16.65 here and $32.00 per drink? Can anyone say "bankrupt"?

According to the website, NOK 95 for adults, NOK 65 for kids. I don't have any intel on that $16.65, just did the conversion from NOK 95.

Whoopsie. My bad. I just did the conversion and 95 NOK is $16.78 USD.

I hope it works for her too but I am skeptical.

Now the Ice Arena, that would be awesome, the single thing I miss most about living in the VI is playing Ice Hockey at least one morning a week before work! I might fly to STT from STX if there was one there 1 morning a week on Seaborne if a game got going 🙂

The $32 is the estimated admission price, and it includes one drink in a souvenir glass. If they're offering it on the ship, they're probably providing transportation which is $4 pp one way.

At least it's something the other islands don't have yet.

Hope she has a generator for that first unexpected power outage or we will have a new indoor swimming pool 🙂

Hmmmm... wonder how the ice sculptures would fare with earthquakes.

Yesterday's Daily News says she has generator and expects 300-400k annually in WAPA. Yikes!

Another good thing - it gives people something to do when it rains! How often do we hear that question?

$16.95 for a half hour walk through isn't going to be a huge tourist draw IMHO. If you're in town needing a half hour in frigid A/C to cool off, just go into First Bank and sit down and watch the tv for a while before you continue shopping. The lobby is big enough for a few hundred to mill about.

If there is an Ice Palace thing on one of the Norwegian ships, I'd hazard to bet you don't pay an extra surcharge to wander through it when you are on the cruise. The typical excursion sought by ship pax is 4-8 hours in duration so they don't have to figure out what to do with their day. It needs to be planned out and fully scheduled.

I can see them advertising to push this a lot the first few months, but it sounds like a hard sell to me... and I've been on 17 cruises over the past 16 years, 14 of those in the past 7 years. I never go with the cruise ship excursion options for Caribbean ports, but have seen what does get people excited and what gets the most complaints. This sounds like it'd hit the complaint category quickly. Then there's the whole infrastructure issue and how they're going to be able to keep that specially shipped in Arctic Ice from melting when power issues inevitably develop.

Sounds like they rustled up funding for it somewhere, but I'm glad I'm not an investor in the project.
