I need an exterior stairs handrail.....
....but I'm hitting a wall. I can't find anywhere on St. Croix to purchase the fittings and actual materials for the handrail. I don't care if it's wood or metal, but I need to be able to secure it down the middle of a wide set of concrete steps. I have someone who can do the work, if we can find the materials and a plan. I can find the code requirements on line, but all the usual hardware suspects don't seem to sell anything, and don't know where to send me. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
You can have something fabricated at Walsh Metal Works in Peter's Rest. He will come out and measure and knows the codes so it will be a proper job. He works in steel, stainless steel and aluminum. I have been most satisfied with all the jobs he has completed for me.
you could look online for the items you are looking for. or have someone buy them for you and ship them down here.
Thanks. I did look on line, but the problem is I don't really know what I'm looking for! I can envision all sorts of styles and ways to put it up, but I was hoping to find something I could actually look at and picture in my mind exactly how to do it. I had forgotten about Walsh, thanks. Also my husband found out that L&C Plumbing does that sort of thing. I was hoping for a DIY job, since I have someone to do the work, and we have all sorts of tools, but looks like we might have to go with the pros.
Just to follow up...we hired Rijo's Welding. He came out Wednesday, immediately drew exactly what we were wanting, quoted us a fair price, started the job on Thursday and just finished this morning. We are VERY pleased. He made it even stronger than we anticipated. His number is 719-3394, if anyone has a need.
Funny aside...the man from L&C Plumbing came out, studied the situation for a bit, told us he had to go work up an estimate and would call us Tuesday evening with a quote. We're still waiting.........................
The fittings you may be looking for to build the railing yourself are called "Speed Rail" fittings.
They fit on the end of pieces of pipe and attach with set screws. They make all kinds of fittings. (Tees, Couplings, 90's, etc).
Thanks robby, I actually found a site on line that had all the parts and a video of how it all works together. They didn't have their prices. You had to request a quote, which I was in the process of doing when we got the bid from Rijo. I'm glad we were able to do business locally, and he is coming out next week to do two more railings for us.
