I need advice
What should I do to prepare on moving to St. John? Or any U.S virgin island. Now, I'm going to school for a certification as a surgical tech. Are there many hospital jobs there? Where should I start researching in general just to move there? There is so much info on tourism but, where can I find helpful information on living? I'm 22 and I've recently married and have a child on the way. I would like to move to some place more natural and wholesome for both me and my family's sake. Where someday perhaps I can live simple and fish with my children surroounded by nature. Where do I start to make this a reality rather than ideology.
I'd really appreciate some help or any information. Thank you very much.

Hello Kevin,
What should I do to prepare on moving to St. John?
Read this message board, read old threads, use the search feature to look up topics you are interested in, order the Settlers Handbook and read it, ask lots of questions here on this board, read the on-line newspaper, plan a pre-move visit to scope things out and see how, where, when... based on your experiences.
Are there many hospital jobs there?
There are two hospitals, one on St. Thomas and one on St. Croix. There is a clinic on St. John. Visit the hospital's web sites. If you visit the Employment section of this web site you will find links to the hospitals and other information as well.
Where should I start researching in general just to move there? There is so much info on tourism but, where can I find helpful information on living?
Start here! You have found the site about relocation to the USVI, this is it. Think of all the questions you have and ask away.

Thanks Islander! I appreciate you took the time to reply to my post. After I had wrote it I noticed how much information was on this site and read through a lot of it. Also, I saw the settlers handbook you mentioned. I'll probably give a call on the next business day and order that. Thanks for the information thus far.
I have a little question that was on my mind. Is there a lot of country side on the island?
Or are there too many buildings?
Thanks for your help.
STJ is 2/3 national park, no builidings, no nothing. That's what makes the rest of the land so valuable.
There is country side on the islands. But if your looking to buy a little piece of paradise you may want to look at St Croix. St John is extremely expensive, because it's mostly national park. St Thomas is also getting very expensive (EDCs, whole other story). To me St. Croix is looking like a place to buy property. There are probably more qualified people to talk to on this site. I just like to give my 2 cents. Good Luck.
