I messed up - anyone deal with new license?
I thought my license expired next year but it actually expired last month - yikes! It was a stateside license that I had planned on just turning in and going through the easy process but now that's not going to happen - does this mean I have to go through the written and driving test now??
Has anyone gone through this process? Can you share your experience and offer and tips or advice?
Mine had expired by about 2 weeks when I realized it. They told me at the license bureau that I had to start from scratch, written test, driving test, physical. I went to Pearl Vision for the eye test (that's all they really want) and then took the written test. They were going to schedule the driving test for about 2 weeks out, so my husband went to the person in charge and "pled my case", and he waived the road test. I don't know if he was just in a good mood that day or maybe he just had enough common sense to save some us all some time and money.
Also, study the book for the written test, and answer the questions according to the book, even if you know better!
Some states will renew your DL online and mail it to you. Check with your state to see if there is a grace period.
I think once it expires they won't cooperate.
My VI license expired in mid-Aug, but I was off island. I called, and they said I had a bit of leeway, and I renewed it on Oct 25, with no issues. Didn't need my plane ticket or anything--Best bet is to try to renew the stateside one, and then apply for the one here using a current one as a transfer.
