Sold my bobcat this weekeend. The fella who bought it wrote me a check. Held my breath until I got to his bank today, but the check cashed, no problem, sooo.... Look out folks, cause here I come! So much to take care of now. I will buy my ticket (one-way this time hehehehehe) tomorrow, found a deal through expedia.com for $326 from cleveland to stx via a few places,(grr) will be on-island January 31 in the evening. Spoke to a friend today who turned me on to a studio for 550/mo and a 1 bed for 600/mo, my choice. Can't give details until i choose which and make the deal, but once i do, i should have the info on one or the other that someone else here would probably love to know. All I lack is the durn job... got resumes out (thanks islandjoan!), gonna bring some cash tho, so I can wait to be there before I go critical on that. Anyone who knows of jobs available in management or the computer industry.. PLEESE!!! anyway, gotta start figuring out what to bring, what to scrap, what to store... the wife has begun the nail-biting, but we're working through it.

Bring more Tupperware. Bring a boatload of it. If you want AC, get a large unit in the states that runs on 110 - you can't get really big units here. LOTS of shorts/t-shirts. And bring a compass...after 4 months I can still end up WAY lost...maybe you should get into GPS for people so when I get lost, I can be found.

Good luck - if you can't decide what should come and what should stay, store it in boxes that are postal ready and make a master list of what is there; have someone who can ship it to you. Inevitably we left the wrong stuff and brought the wrong stuff! That's the one piece of advice I wish I had paid attention to but didn't. Oh well, the NEXT time I move to the Caribbean I'll know better!

That was an extremely helpful post! It left me wondering though...

What was the "wrong stuff" that you brought?

What were the things that you left behind and then needed?

We are starting to sort through our goods in preparation for a March move. Deciding what to get rid of, what to keep, bring, etc can be a little stressful. Your point about tupperware and AC's has been noted.

On a sadder note... I just gave away my two orchids today. 🙁 Still looking for homes for the other plants.

Don't forget - There is a Tupperware dealer here on island. And I offer a special deal for those who move here.

Becky - I miss you and Russ. Call me sometime - 719-6418

This is the time to embark on a new chapter in our lives. Enjoy the move to this part of the world!

Hello tango10lima,

I saw your note about your orchids so I wanted to share with you that there is an Orchid Society on St. Croix!

There is a short article on our sister site about them, here is the link http://vinow.com/news/2004/jan/orchids.php.

re the Tupperware and the AC - why are either of them really necessary?

The AC depends on whether you live in a valley where there is NO air circulation, such as we have now. Last summer was impressive. I'm also a sissy.

The Tupperware - good grief, everything goes stale if you don't bag it or seal it. Humidity or whatever...but a cracker turns into a sodden mess in no time. It's a necessity, believe me.
