As I do you, we will be ok. It will be a great story for your grandchildren. I'm a veteran of some bad ones. Lets hope the center is 42 miles out like they are saying at the moment. None of us need it or want it.

Building codes and environmental standards get stronger after major disasters and hurricanes strike.

Only if legislation gets passed to do so instead of lessening them.
Houston and other places ha water tested and found to have incredibly high amounts of fecal matter, chemicals and toxins in the waters.
8000 parts plus. EPA regulations used to be zero.

Stay off of our beaches until waters have time to clear themselves out.
We, too, will have totally unclean, toxins and fecal matter in our waters, after any storm or major rain event due to run off.

Beware of scam contractors thru any rebuilding process.

Never mind Alana. Too tired to explain or argue the point. Have a good night.

Hopefully in the morning we'll start to see that northward turn in the current forecast.

After Hugo all residential building codes in the USVI were beefed up to match Fort Lauderdale/ Miami.
These are the most stringent codes in the country in regards to building to withstand windstorm events.

Rule of thumb for new home buyers, look for homes constructed after Hugo-1989.

Or consider something built of stone back when it was the Danish West Indies 😉

And after Andrew the Florida codes were strengthened again. The Florida Building Code was established in 1998 and put into effect by 2002.

My STX condo was completed a couple weeks prior to Hugo and fared OK being built of concrete and steel. I think there might have been some roof damage though.

Has there ever been a direct hit or a near miss from a cat 4? Hugo was a strong 3 and Marylin was only a 2!

Yum no offence but if you had seen what THAT BITCH Marilyn did , it was no where near a Cat 2. I had a friend that found his car about a mile away after she passed. Windspeed debate about Marilyn has been a sore spot for years. Here is a picture of STT after Marilyn, all the sporty blue roofs ? those were FEMA tarps because the houses had no roofs. I have seen pictures of Hugo damage at Hovensa where a steel I-Beam was twisted like a pretzel.

People can claim whatever they want, but the fact is all the scientific data collected shows Marylin was a high cat 2 / low cat 3 at it's most intense.

There obviously could've been some freak wind bursts and/or tornados that caused some of the more severe damage, but that doesn't change the overall classification.
