i hear trump is going to visit in a week or two

He is going to be here quicker than that, director of FEMA is coming down as well it was on CNN this morning and sounded like it was going to be within the next few days.

My wife and I made the decision for come over to STX for a bit until the recovery can kick in. It was a very hard decision to make but we couldn't do much there. The house that my wife and I were in made it through with no real damage, and trust me I can't put into words how blessed we feel because of that. Landlord lives on in the house as well so our stuff will be safe. I have been talking with a bunch of the " Crucian Navy " people over here as far as what can be done to help.

Just heard that bribes are being taken to get through the police roadblocks. Heard another story that one of the charterboats is charging over $500.00 a head to get people off STT to STX. There are a lot of reports of looting occuring but it sounds like as more military and guard get on the ground that will ease up. Passed 2 helo carriers on way over to STX on the boat.

How did you get over? The ferry is not running regular service yet is it? STT airport not open yet?

I agree 100%. Once the media in the states here turned to FL, the extreme damage the Caribbean done by a Cat 5 was off the radar. Here's a good article by NBC News today though. I made my donation to the Red Cross...

What purpose does it serve to halt all restoration work?

Julio Rhymer was quoted as saying its so WAPA personnel can reflect on their fallen co-worker.

I don't get that...shouldn't they be out there restoring power, not reflecting?

Don't know what the cause of death is but any work place death usually results in a shut down and investigation.

While everyone is impatient to get their power restored, IMO its not worth someone dying over.

These guys will be working a lot of hours and they need to have their "head in the game". The work they're doing is dangerous and if a day off to mourn and reflect on the work ahead may be warranted

A moment of silence would be appropriate.

A whole day during a crisis...I don't think so.

My son-in-law is a lineman (not here). When this has happened, work went on when there was NO crisis. Those from same office are allowed to take a few hours off, to regroup/reflect, but shifts are still covered. I can only surmise that this being a smaller work community, they are more personally affected. It's not a job to perform when your head isn't 100% on the task.

The ferry usually goes to Charlotte Amalie. As far as I know it is going to Red Hook right now. If you are on STT waiting to leave, then you might go downtown rather than Red Hook.

Not to inform you, but to inform others of what could be a serious problem if you're on STT.

You're kidding - right?

I was helping friends negotiate STT and almost directed them downtown to the ferry.

What's important is getting people to safety and respite.

it just seems that instead of quoting me ( who knows there are ferrys running ) you should have quoted the people who were asking when you were replying. i mean, they are the ones that need to know. not me.

seems like you were answering me when i posed no question. i just found it odd, which is why i questioned why you didnt quote them. why are you getting a bit bent out of shape?
