Human Services Department Opens Shelters Territorywide

The Department of Human Services announced Wednesday shelter openings for persons needing assistance during the inclement weather.

The following shelters have been opened:
· St. Thomas Project STRIVE Senior Center at the Knud Hansen Complex as of 11am
· St. John Bethany Moravian Church at 4pm
· St. Croix St. Croix Educational Complex at 4pm

The department advises persons to bring the following if deciding to utilize a shelter:
· Special foods for dietary needs
· One complete change of clothing
· Sleeping bag and pillow
· Rain gear
· Toiletries
· Medications and first aid supplies
· ID and other valuable documents
· Games, cards and toys (for youngsters)
· Battery powered radio

On St. Croix: Line crews are being dispatched through Wednesday night to the following areas: Orange Grove (West), LBJGardens, Mt Pellier- West, Betsy Jewel, Grove Place, La Reine, Castle Coakley, Whim, Williams Delight, Two Williams, Mt. Pleasant, Shoys, La Grange, Butler Bay, Spring Garden, Northside, Nicholas, Frederickshaab, Wheel Of Fortune, Little Princess Hill, St. John, Grange Hill, Brookshill, Turner Hole, New Works, Bethlehem, and Mon Bijou. Customers with problems in other areas should call the line department at 773-0150 or 773-2250 extension 3056.

On St. John, line crews are working on a major problem in the Coral Bay area and anticipate power to be returned to that and other areas on St. John by Wednesday night.

On St. Thomas, crews will continue to work in Kirwan Terrace, Crown and Hawk, the Northside, and Frenchman’s Bay areas. Crews will also address problems on Water Island.

Customers who have not yet reported an outage in their area can contact the St. Thomas/.St. John/Water Island Call Center at 777-WAPA or the Line Department at 774-1424.
