I am here to serve Iris and I will not hound you for cash. My service is free not like the Hospital.:-)

I stand corrected (and have no problem doing so), I did say those words. But only because the "services" rendered were so GROSSLY out of proportion to the price charged.

Cheers, mate.

p.s. I would not hire you for all the money on the planet! 🙂

Oh so you don't pay your hospital bill because you don't think it's appropriate. Do you think the Hospital will be able to pay their bills with that kind of patient thinking?

a lot of hospitals eroneously charge for items that should not be charged for. read your bill carefully before you pay. there is a law suit in the states because one man thought he was grossly overcharged for asprin. he was being charged about 85 dollars for something that could have been bought for about 8 dollars. hospitals do overcharge.
Not sure of the exact figures relating to the law suit. i did read about it earlier this week.
i am in no way stating that you should not pay your bills, just look it over carefully.

I'm an American trained EM physician considering a move to STX from Italy (working for the Navy). Looking for options from the patrons of the hospital on STX. As patients what is your experience with medicine there, both emergent and routine? Thank you.

The ER does not have pillows.

They are staffed by off-duty police officers because of the propensity for violence.

It is a horrible, horrible, horrible place, and I would give all my money and then some to see it bulldozed. If they EVER send me a bill I will respond with a lawsuit.

Not only does Iris Tramm not want to be hounded for her medical bills for the services the hospital provided, She also threatens to bring a Lawsuit and abuse another agency ( USVI Court System) that is another tax payer funded institution. You can't make this stuff up.

Happy Face, you've been posting here for about 2 months and most of your post are not very happy. Could you please give us a little background - how long have you been on island? Why did you come here? Are YOU happy? Inquiring minds want to know.

LindaJ,
I'm very happy, if my post upsets you or you agree with Iris that she should not pay her Hospital bill and threaten a lawsuit if they hound her for the money she owes. What is your opinion? The OP was about healthcare. Iris has the audacity to put on this forum the hospital that saved her life is horrible place. If she doesn't pay her bill who do you think is going to pay it.(Not You you don't live on the Island)
Didn't know there is/was a time line on posting? I live on the island of St Croix, a lot longer than your 8 years, I own property, pay tax, and vote.
Oh BTW I pay my bills, don't like paying for Deadbeats!

Deerie, JFL DIDN'T save my life. My constant calling to my stateside doctors who DIRECTED the JFL staff saved my life. Again, if I get a bill, they get a lawsuit. Their "services" are not worth the costs charged.

JFL should be razed.

Aaaaaaaand since we're pulling out our dicks here, HappyFace, I've lived here longer than you, own property, pay tax, vote, AND pay my bills. At least those bills for services that don't threaten to kill me while promising to save me.

Again, cheers, mate!

" don't want them hounding me for cash" Who said that?

Hmm, thanks for these responses. What you two have described seem to be hospital issues and not so much medicine issues. Most ERs don't have pillows, blankets usually yes. The goal is to have patients in and out quickly. Sometimes patients are "housed" in the ED due to staffing issues with the hospital floors.

But how are you finding the care? What is the average length of time you waited to see a doctor? How clean is the facility?

No pillows when you have a head wound and a condition that requires you to be in an a non-existent ICU? Horrible. Beyond horrible. I'd rather be treated by Sean Penn in Port au Prince. Never saw a doctor. I showed up with a severe head wound and it took them FOUR DAYS to show me the results of my CT scan, and then only by flashing the piece of paper in front of me for three seconds because I insisted I had no recollection of the procedure. I'm afraid to ask for my records because I don't want them hounding me for cash.

No recollection of the procedure (CT scan). but you remember calling your doctor in the states to instruct the medical staff at the Hospital?
People are shot and killed there. I would no more admit myself to JFL again than I would move into one of the public housing complexes.

Look into the PR medflights people.

Thanks for the repost Happy! It's good for people to know these things.

IRIS Tramm,
All of your posts say you rent and one says you don't pay your bills? If you want to continue this PM me and that will keep LindaJ out of the details supplied by you.

Hey Ric,
You and LindaJ must be real happy, you never had to pay the real estate tax to the USVI that included debt from the hospital. You don't live here so whats in it for you. Again as I told your wife" I'm happy", I'm still here! Just don't want to pay the unpaid bill for deadbeats. People like you come and go. Try to enjoy Kentucky.

we dont know the whole story about why the bill was paid so we really can't or shouldn't comment on why it was not paid.

I've never GOTTEN a bill speee1dy. JFL is so incompetent that they don't even know how to request billing information, much less actually TREAT critically ill patients. (Birthin' babies they do okay at, as long as there's no complications. But, then, you can hire a doula at half the cost.) Again, if they send me a bill, I will commence litigation. If they don't, I will consider the matter closed unless, as the OP did, someone asks my opinion about the quality of healthcare on STX. To that end, I would advise anyone with any kind of serious medical condition AGAINST moving here until either your health or the health care system has improved.

And, HF? I have zero interest in engaging in a PM conversation with you. You strike me as a very unpleasant person. This thread was about the quality of healthcare on STX. IMHO, it's horrible. That's based on my decade-long experience. If the OP wants to ignore it, fine, but it was an overt solicitation for opinion, not an invitation for ad hominem (and vaguely stalkerish) verbal attacks on posters from you. Find a hobby, huh?

Iris Tramm,

She said she never received a bill.

I had a similar experience several years ago at the St Thomas RLS hospital. If it weren't for the intervention of friends who looked at my medical chart, found an alarmingly obvious treatment omission and raised the alarm, I likely wouldn't be around today. The hospital ombudsman wanted my friends to sign on the dotted line at the end of a document but fortunately one of them was an attorney and quickly realized that he was being asked to sign something which said that if I croaked the hospital wouldn't be responsible ... he told them where they could put it. I only heard all of this later on as I was deathly ill and non compos mentis.

Upon discharge I was handed a HUGE bill for a three night stay. Not that I could possibly afford it as I had no medical insurance but there was no follow-up and I never received anything else from them.

Old Tart.
Because you had no medical insurance you feel that you don't owe anything for your three night stay? If you had a customer that had no credit card no cash and he/she just ignored your bill, how long would you have been in the restaurant business?

Do try reading comprehensively and not leaping to assumptions. I did NOT say that I wouldn't have paid it but that I couldn't at the time. The point I was making is that I never received another bill. One would rather assume that after a decade has passed by, the matter is dead. I'm just happy that I'm not.

Old Tart,
Not leaping to assumptions. Who do you think is or has paid for your three days. Your post said several years ago now a decade, it really doesn't matter if it was yesterday or a decade ago, you made no attempt to make a payment or did you? Hospital bills are not an entitlement as some think.

Your post said several years ago now a decade ...

At my age a decade often does seem like just "several years ago"... but consider that you've had the last word as is your wont. :@)
