A number of years ago, the VI gov't went several years without sending out tax refunds. Can't remember if it was Schneider's admin or early Turnbull..but thinking it was about 8-10 years ago. Folks eventually got paid, and with interest, but it took years.....like two or three, seems like, at least. Many of us try to plan so as to owe the VI money every year, it's safer.
I filed the 15th of april (tax day) and like i said i just received my check monday. Course its all spent on car insurance for the year.
was fun to look at .....here today gone tomorrow...
i filed the day before you! no check yet...oh well...
tim sent all his stuff to austin texas because apparently they oversee the irb here and he got his money back in 45 days
Called IRB today...
Refunds are on a stop. I asked what that meant and she said no more refunds are going out, for now. I asked how long it would be for, and she didn't know.
Ridiculous.
I don't expect my refund any time soon as it appears the VI is emulating California with its IOUs. I've always had taxes withheld based on a W-4 allowance of eighteen (or whatever the maximum is for a one income family, married filing jointly), and I still end up with a refund. Fortunately, the VI government has always come through with a refund -- eventually -- and they have always paid interest. So as annoying as it is to be waiting for the VI government to return my money, at least I'm not WAPA, which will never see the money it's owed by the VI government. 😀
I changed my W-4 yesterday. No more free money loan to the VI from Me!
I emailed the VI Source and the Daily News several weeks ago and asked if they could find out what the deal was with the missing checks. The VI Source did ask and the answer was not to worry basically, soon come, but I have some fear that without some rucus made it will not be a priority. The Daily News didn't respond and as far as I know hasn't published any stories on the problem. I would like to ask them to do so as it might help, but haven't had any luck getting their attention. If anyone knows of a way to rattle their cage-it might be a good idea.
I had to go to the IRB yesterday and when I asked about the refund checks, she gave me a disconcerting grimace. I think my money is being spent buying the governor a new guardhouse!
Wonder why they didn't just move the guardhouse that's still standing at Roy Schneider's house? It wasn't long ago it used to take 2-3 years to get a refund - if you were lucky. Send a pitchfork in to the Daily News. It couldn't hurt.
While not an income tax refund, I did get a $220 energy rebate check in July for an Energy Star fridge I bought in like February. Was surprised it came, and within 6 months!

Still no check here either. Plus, the place I work is closing for our annual vacation. A month this time. I'll be broke...but I'll be rested...and maybe even tan???...maybe not.:S
Actually got a phone call from the Director of Finance yesterday. I had called before frustrated with the long delay when we had severe medical needs that had to be adressed. She said our check is on the top of the list for the next batch of checks. Hmm Wonder when that'll be?
It came! It came! Today! .....now, if only the check wouldn't bounce
