How to get an Apple Macbook in the VI?
Mac user? How did you get your computer here (stx)? There no longer seems to be reseller on island, and my usual source for electronics won't mail one here. They insist on fedex or another carrier, which will add a customs duty making my purchase impractical. I suppose I can wait til my next stateside trip, but if there is a simpler way which helps a local business but not the customs department I'd be interested in giving that a try. Any suggestions?
Did you try Computer Solutions?
Have the supplier ship to Paradise Freight or Vi Cargo ground or however you choose. The tax on electronics, meaning cameras, monitors, computers, ipads, etc. was lifted and does not apply for personal use. Not sure how it effects a business. All you end up paying is shipping from Fla to here. Very reasonable just might take a week or two depending on when it get's there. Other option is mail. Just ship it to someone you trust and have them send it.
Or have them ship to family/friend, stateside and have them mail it to you. Request a tracking number.

I did not know that. Thanks for that info. I've been doing business with VI Executive Freight/VI Cargo/Paradise Freight for a quarter century. Where logistics is concerned, I'll pretty much follow Maricia to the ends of the earth.
B & H Photo ships here via USPS and the discounted price usually covers the shipping cost. We've bought several computers through them.

Best Buy - And, they ship here for free

Believe me, B&H are my go-to source for gadgets. But at least for Macbook Pros they don't list USPS as an option. First time I've ever seen that, hence my original post.
When I bought a new iMac from the Apple store several years ago there was no viable shipping option but a friend regularly traveled back and forth for business so I had the unit shipped to him and he brought it down as carry-on. If you have that option or have a stateside trip coming up in the future I'd be more inclined to go that route. Good luck!
PS: I saved a HUGE amount of money over the local supplier.
I have bought several Apple computers and gadgets, new and refurbished, through Small Dog Electronics. www.smalldog.com Always have been happy with them.
I would suggest best buy.
Thanks for the heads-up about Best Buy, unfortunately they do not stock the model I need. Stjohnjulie, small dog looks interesting!
Walmart? Etronics? New place called h h gregg? Think thats the name. What about amazon
A lot of eBay sellers will ship here via USPS.

Next time you go in Paradise it is on the left as you walk in. She may be able to fax or email a copy to you.
And yes I did follow her from VIcargo after many years with them. Go where the best customer service is.
Small Dog was recommended to me many years ago by a friend who is an Apple IT guy at the Washington Post. I've bough two new, and can't remember how many refurbished things from them in the past. I've been happy with everything I got from them as well as their customer service. I tend to check them first to see if I can get something that I want at as a quality refurbished or model version to save a few bucks. I haven't ordered from them in awhile, but when I tried to 'checkout' a new macbook pro, they gave a USPS as a shipping option to a VI zip code.
We use a mail forwarding company based out of FL called American Home Base for re-mailing stuff that ships in the states but not here. It cost $10/month plus postage of whatever is shipped, and they will accept items mailed in your name and then relabel and forward to you using whatever method you want- snail mail, priority, etc.
We switched to AHB after depleting the generosity of every relative in the southeast by having them do basically the same thing over the years... For $10/month it has been worth it since then.
I had a Macbook Pro that I bought last year on Amazon shipped to Paradise Freight. It was no problem whatsoever. In fact, I ship almost everything including dog food through Paradise Freight.
Best Buy sells them and ships here no problem -- and typically if its over like $35 or something they ship for free.
Interesting about best buy! I didn't know that.
I bought mine on amazon and shipped to my dad in AZ - then to STT. BUT I made damn sure to insure that thing for full value and box it in something not the original box of course. I was told that they wont ship here because of theft. Same reason I couldn't ship my rental camera and lens for my Africa trip here. They said they've tried and it always just "goes missing".
I just used VI cargo for a big kig sized fabric platform bed. Weighed 100lbs and it was $90. The bed was a great deal at $300. Like $1500 less than local.
Good luck - Apple RULES. 😀
Just got my Mac two days ago. Bought it from Apple. Had it shipped to my daughter in the states. she then priority mailed to me, fully insured of course. It arrived without incident, but I admit I was worried. I forgot to tell her to leave in the Apple package and place inside another box and it still got here. Shew!
