I expect to take my income tax return to VI IRB in Christiansted a few days before April 15.

Question for those who have done this in prior years: How long will the queue be just to turn in the forms and get a record of submission? I assume it will be the longest on April 15.

I've been there close to the 15th and the line was down the stairs (30min wait) and also when there were only 2 people in front of me....never can tell.

When the 15th approaches IRB usually puts more people at a table in the hall in addition to the windows so it moves along nicely. Parking can be a short term issue.

Bring a copy and have that time stamped as well

DG, Guess I should bring a book to read while waiting.

Bombi, Good advice! I hadn't thought about bringing a copy.

In dealing with any government agency it is always advisable to bring a copy in order to get a stamped receipt from the agency as proof of filing and or payment. This is especially important with the IRB. Surprisingly enough, they move fairly quickly at the IRB on STX on April 15th. Please call and check with them to see what their hours are on the 15th. I believe they can be reached at 340-773-1040.

You ALWAYS bring a copy of ANY filing, payments etc that you make to the VI gov't, and get it stamped, and you keep it FOREVER. I have known them to go back 15 or more years, both with individuals and businesses...have seen it on property taxes, corporation filings, applications for annual tax clearance letters, and from other offices. there is no statute of limitations when it comes to them wanting money. The strange thing is that a "delinquent" year will just pop up as an issue, when it had not been mentioned in the years before when requesting the same document year after year...so you're never safe,

I once took my filing papers to the IRB for submission and did not have a copy with me -- the lady behind the window asked "where is your copy?" -- On my desk at home. -- " You will not have a stamped copy when the original gets lost!" How can it be lost - I just gave it to you and this is the IRB office! " It could get lost!!!" - I went home and returned with the copy. There is no other reason to GO to the IRB in person except to get a stamped copy.

Edward - I don't know if you know, but you only pay taxes in the VI if you were a VI resident on December 31st. Otherwise, you pay the IRS.
