How do you get rid of salt peter from your walls?
I have an interior wall that has salt peter forming on it and I have no idea what to do to make it stop. I assume it is due to moisture seeping from the inside of the wall, but it is an internal wall, not next to the cistern, and not damp to the touch. It has made the paint swell and flake off. As of now I've been scrapping and spraying it with bleach, but I would like to repaint the room and would appreciate a more permanent solution to this problem. I figure someone else out there must have fought this battle as well. Thanks, A
who told you you had salt peter weeping from your wall?
It's not salt Peter (its saltpetre) one word. It's caused by moisture. If it's a sheet rock wall knock it down and replace it same with plaster.
You can try a dehumidifier, doesn't really last that long. Try to Find the source of where the moisture is coming from. If you can find that then you can fix/cure the problem.
If concrete, scrap the paint off (all of it, or at least the best you can do), then wash it down with muriatic acid. When it's dry and ready for paint, use DryLock. These directions are on the can. It will have a rough, textured finish, so if that works with your decor, great. You'll need to then put regular paint on it, and that should smooth it out some, if you don't like the texture. The worst part is the mess all that scaping makes. Good luck.
Of course, where the moisture is coming from is the first thing to tackle.
