Does anyone know when Hovensa plans to start auctioning off their vehicles and other equipment?

They have already sold some of their heavy equipment. The market is very soft for used office equipment and I understand many of the cars and trucks were leased.

Its not Hovensa, but for those of you who are interested there is going to be a huge building supply and equipment auction on STX at U&W supply in October. You can check out the details at:

I've been hearing about the car and equipment auction happening "next week!" often enough over the last several months I'm starting to think it is an urban legend. Asking my friends who should be in the know, they can only say they have no idea.

The longer they hold off on the auction, the more chance that the refinery will re-open.

Fingers crossed.

They already held an auction two weekends ago for current employees only for the vehicles parked in the lot near estate cottage. The next auction will be open to former employees only. My understanding is that whichever vehicles are left will then be auctioned to the public.

nohstx, how did you find that out? All my former Hovensa friends don't know anything about an auction.

I know because I was there for part of it. I was driving by a few Saturdays ago and saw there were tents set up and about 100 people walking around kicking tires, lifting hoods, and writing offers on the windows. I tried to get in to kick a few tires myself but was told it was for current employees only. I read the Auction terms and hung around for a few minutes talking to people to get more details, then left.

Since then they have rearranged some of the cars in the lot. I am guessing that they will run an ad in the paper when the time comes to auction what is left to the general public. More buyers = more money.

Same thing I thought about my people when I saw it going on! 🙂 I think Hovensa kept round one very quiet on purpose. I'll let you know if I hear any news on rounds two and three.

Fer sure! There are a lot of new people here looking for cars - and I know of a volunteer here who needs a car badly (cheap)!

Just a reminder to all of those like me who can't resist fun stuff like this-

The U & W auction is this Friday and Saturday on STX- doors open at 7 am, auction runs from 9am-4pm both days. For those of you who aren't familiar with the stuff at U&W, just imagine it as having a cross between Home Depot and Hovensa stock.

There are tons (literally) of building supplies, etc up for auction, thousands of doors and windows, pallets and crates full of plumbing and electrical stuff, simpson strong ties, tile, etc. Even 40,000 bars of hotel style soap, and all kinds of other miscellaneous building material and industrial stuff. Appliances, faucets, you name it for residential and commercial projects. Screws and nails will be sold by the ton.

Bruce Wilson is the auctioneer, and he always manages to make things entertaining.

Located just off the highway in the first warehouse on East Airport Rd.

PM me for more details or for a list of the entire inventory up for grabs.
