Dear Pat:

I am a naval architect and marine engineer and a pilot for the US Coast Guard. I don't know of any houseboat designed for open ocean. I think it would be suicide to consider it. Moreover, unless it is diesel powered, I don't think it would carry enough fuel to get out of sight of land.

The best option is to have it transported by ocean going barge from Miami to the Islands.

Best of luck and hope you don't need my professional services.

Dave

thanks that was what my inital thinking was but wasn't sure. from what I have started to learn about house boats they seam to be like mobile homes that float so I didn't think they would make the long haul but a barge from miami sounds like a plan.
thanks looking at options and planning on a move as soon as possiable.

Try calling Ken Huskey at 340-776-8660. He runs a business moving yachts to and from the mainland. Think about how and where you would secure the houseboat during hurricane season before you bring her down. Email me if you have any specific questions.
Pamela.
