*I am considering relocating to the Islands. What are your restrictions on horses (moving them here, how many, how much land per horse is required)? Thank you for your time.

Cassandra- I am relocating also, hopefully. I have two horses, although I will sell them pre-move I think. If you find anything out, call any stables or anything, let me know...thanks!

I will definitely let you know. I am new to this site and I am planning on getting the relocation brochures. Maybe those will have something. Good luck!

Go to the yellow pages at www.viphonebook.com and look up Carolina Stables on STJ. They may have the info you are looking for. Not many horses on STT or STJ. A few, but not many.

Hello Cassandra & Meg,

Contact the Humane Society, I know they have assisted with relocating horses before so should have the details.

St. Thomas:

St. Croix:

Also contact the Dept. of Agriculture:

Best bet is to call them, Dr. Bradford was the vet there a few months ago, ask for her. If she isn't there then just ask for help/laws/regulations on horses, (340)774-5182

Paul & Jill’s Equestrian Stables is on St. Croix. They might have suggestions.

Besides the couple of horseback tours, horses are not that common. The cow boys that work the Senapol ranches on St. Croix ride horses. There is a race track on St. Croix and St. Thomas. Lots of sad cases when horses are injured and can't race anymore; sometimes they are given to local kids who don't care for them properly. There is a gal that works for Moore Veterinary Clinic on St. Thomas that works with trying to rescue abandoned race horses on St. Thomas. I've seen horses tied in small enclosures around residences on St. Croix; definitely not with any kind of adequate space, shade - so if there are laws they aren't being enforced. You don't see horses on St. Thomas or St. John at residences. There was or is a stable close to the Dairy on St. Thomas, I have lost track of the person running it. And there used to be one in Wintberg - haven't seen horses there in a while.
