Home mortgage refinance
Any recommendations on a finance institution to use for a refinance?
You can try First Liberty Mortgage as well as First Bank.
Shop around.
First Bank is the worst
We refinanced a year ago and it took 100+ days to get it done and the original mortgage was from First
We had to keep redoing all the documents, bank statements etc, as they expired after 30 days
30 days after we "closed" we had to go back and resign the documents as they had mistakes on the originals
We just completed a refinance with ScotiaBank after our balloon mortgage expired. They were the original lender. I took almost TWO YEARS to complete the refinance.
At one point, they said we were lucky because most people on STX are underwater now and can't qualify for a refinance or even get a mortgage now.
It was scary.
Try Flagstar Bank. I just purchased a house on St. Croix and used them for financing.. They are stateside, based in Troy, MI, so things tend to move faster with them in comparison to the VI-based institutions, although the process regardless tends to be a bit slower than on the mainland.

Friends of mine used Flagstar and were very happy with the service and speed. I was too far down the pipeline to switch so I just stuck with Scotia.
for a local (STX) option:

2nd Capital Mortgage and Michael Armendariz. Had no problems re-financing.
Before my friends got connected with Flagstar, they were trying to work with Michael Armendariz. They were extremely dissatisfied and had to go else where.
