Home Depot
I've only bought a few small items at GBH, but the service was very friendly.
Maybe not as large as HD will be, but larger than the hardware stores where my Dad and I used to hang out in North Philadelphia in the 40s and 50s.
I love hardware stores! Let HD come and compete.
terry you sound like my mom and her bf. they shop lowes and home depot but also the local ace because sometimes the big stores dont have what they need.
Back on the mainland I shop Lowes or Home Depot at times as well but I shop Ace because it's even closer (all are pretty close) and more importantly there are people still left there you can find who are willing to help you. A few years ago the same could be said of Home Depot but now you have to hunt and chase one down with the layoffs of floor staff at the big box home improvement chains.
The lot has been cleared and they are staking it out now.
I can usually find what I want at the big stores but Ace on the corner is closer and less crowded. Saves time.

Right on Edward, competition is good!
Now, if we had some serious supper state side markets!....
"let HD come and compete" Do we have a vote?
What about The place over by Sunny Isle? Do it Yourself!? - I haven't been in, but isn't that a hardware store too?
Caribe Do It Center is a hardward store. It's also a lumber yard, and they sell fencing. They carry some other things that Gallows Bay doesn't. I prefer GBH for most stuff, but sometimes you need Caribe, too.
and sometimes you have to call Princess hardware, or go to Tropical Plumbing, or L&C Plumbing, occasionally Kamakris out in f'sted..where I guess you would start if you were living on the west end....and sometimes NO ONE has whatever it is you need..and I'm sure HD will be just the same at times....the pipe but no fitting, the fitting but no pipe, the fan but no downrod, the tile but no thinset, or they just sold the last of the tile, etc, etc. HD might not change the supply issues much but I'm guessing they might moderate the prices a bit.
Four walls are up at the Home Depot on Evans Highway, Route 66.
Yup. Home Depots are not sophisticated buildings - they're basically overgrown shacks with minimal interior walls. This thing could be up and running by the end of Spring - in theory. Soon come...

Woohoo! That's one more than the BMV!

The buildings are erected by a state side company that does many of them.
The one in STT took no time.
It is interesting to watch what they stock it up to open the store. There may be some strange things. Like heaters.
I have found the HD to be a great help in STT, when they have the stuff I need. Rebuilding a house, even though I shipped down a full trailer, has been difficult. HD help a lot. But I still buy my plumbing and electrical from a local company. Lumber, doors, windows and tools all come from HD.
Enjoy!

Heaters in the islands aren't strange. People in tropical climates love to air condition the hell out of their indoors. I kept one in my office in C'sted where my boss kept the AC at 55 degrees. I coulda used a HD with a heater section back then. Had to convince Amazon to ship me one instead.

while the GC might be/was from stateside, the HD in STT was built using a technique called 'tilt-up walls" and the contractor who did them (and quite well from what the stateside GC said after) was/is a stx company. I do not know if he is also doing the work now on stx...
I have always wondered why they don't do more tilt up construction even on houses!
Anyone know the name of the STX contractor?
tilt-up walls in stt were done by vivot. GC had good things to say about Patrick. Don't know who's doing stx work...but assume there might be signs if you drive by.
The developer is Island Crossings.
Two cents - While I eagerly anticipate HD, for the past 31 years, in my everyday repair and refinishing - whether on a boat or bathtub, in a hotel or house, from Reno to Rome - I have never been able to rely on one store (or island) for what I need to quickly meet the expectations of my stateside born and bred clients...come soon...come soon.
