hi all,
i am looking for some good history books about the vi. any suggestions?
thank you,

The St Croix Landmarks society has a collection of books for sale both at Whim musuem and store in C'sted that deal with history and such.
You can check out the VI public libraries:

There are some VI history books on amazon.com if you browse around. In many Caribbean history books, the Virgin Islands is often mentioned so you can expand your search that way.
"A History of the Virgin Islands of the United States," by Isaac Dookhan.
"The Umbilical Cord," by Harold W. L. Willocks.
And a fictionalized history, "Night of the Silent Drums." by John Lorenzo Anderson.
Browsing through Dockside Book Shop at Havensight always yields a few new histories.
My major favourite is Luther K. Zabriskie's, "The Virgin Islands of the United States of America."
Originally published in 1918, it's now out of print. I became interested in it many years ago when I came across a rather old booklet published by the then College of the Virgin Islands which had published Zabriskie's findings in a precied format.
I found an "original" in Margot Bachman's home library during a get-together there and got all excited about my "find" but any small attempt at wresting it from Margot's grasp was of course useless. She cherished it as much as I wanted it!
I was finally able to obtain a similarly well-used original hard-cover replete with all original photos and flyleafs via I think Amazon. There were only two available then and maybe there are none available now.
Good searching , cheers, and thank you for your interest.
