As a resident of the Caribbean (and visitor to other islands for recreation or business) for many years, I realize that there is crime where I was born, and crime where I live now.

I also know that when the citizens of any community are safe, then their visitors are as well, by extension. It is my hope that my government, neighbors and friends support this goal.

May we all enjoy peace wherever we are, at home or abroad. And, where we do not, may we receive the justice, comfort and attention that we deserve.

Don't believe the stats. I happen to know that one of the islands that's listed way below the USVI has TONS more crime than we do. The news about it is carefully squelched.

This are rankings from Frommers???

I think they use the formula of what every country or territory reports.

Trade tell me which island is rank below the USVI that has worst crime i will like to know?

St martin is part french commune/dept of Guadalupe but the statistics are done island by island. I Know St martin/St Marteen are the same island with 2 different jurisdictions, Police dept, and laws reporting crimes and different statistics.

I think they got the Cayman Islands right though. I lived on Grand Cayman about 6 years ago and it felt amazingly safe there. Even our receptionist at the station I worked at talked about how she could walk around at night and feel safe. And this is a girl I would never want walking alone at night down here.

Well people, these numbers are not accurate...why? STT should be No1

After catching a local commiting a crime and calling the police, it some how turned around to it some how being my fault and he was allowed to go free.

please PM me, we can meet and i will introduce you to numerous business owners on the dock we live and work on that have been robbed.....and the police will do nothing...don't take my word, let me introduce you to the victims.

I will not go quietly into the dark....I will not live as the frickin romans do.....someone needs to make an example....I sure hope i catch someone again, breaking into my boat...you will get the luxury of reading about me in the newspaper.........People, please you have to take care of your SELF!

Peace

To Talonz82:

"I will not go quietly into the dark....I will not live as the frickin romans do...."

Sorry if I offended you, but the reference to living as the Romans do is my signature file and is not related to any post I might make on this board...

No need for any discussion, just wanted to clarify that.

Have you got any sources for your information? Where would you personally have the USVI at on that list?

Hi David, I don't want to offend anyone by mentioning the name of the island, but I have lived on a couple of the islands listed. One of them, more than half way down the list and therefore appearing "safer" than average, actually has a very bad crime rate. The Government controls the Press, and since the island depends on tourism for it's income, crime is not reported. EVERYONE I know there has been the victim of some sort of crime, myself included. In my case, I am lucky to be alive.

I have to mention this because I have said elsewhere that I lived in the Turks&Caicos (Providenciales). When I lived there, there was no crime, and even now there is very little.

I know the USVI is part of the US but they are essentially run almost entirely internally. Is it possible that the VI also underreports crime as the other islands?
