Hi, Everyone

Could you possibly come up with an alternate phrase instead of repeating the same one over and over again at every conceivable opportunity?
I'll try and freshen it up
How do the following strike you?
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones
Obviously you have the time and I just know you can do much better than these very dated clichés if you put just a wee bit of effort into it.
dated cliches are often the best
I was speaking to sunshine fun the person who made a comment about why would I move to the VI just to live in the projects. I forgot to click the quote button.
Why would you want to move to one of the most expensive places to live in the US if you're poor?

*yawns* again do your research. I know a couple doctors and nurses who receives housing assistance. Are they poor too? Poor to me is your state of mind and apparently you fit the description down to a T.

Are you willing to subject your 4 children to inadequate health care?
Or to one of the lowest ranked education systems in the nation?
Think about it. Children will always come first.
(The housing assistance a doctor and nurse may receive is not because of a government program that is accessible to everyone. It is more likely for travelling nurses and doctors - only)
And telling someone that has lived here, owns a business and employs people to do his research is just plain rude.

Rather than engaging in reactive barbs to comments you don't agree with, save your energy and channel it into seriously investigating if a move to the USVI is really a good decision. On the face of it and given just the small amount of information you've given, it probably isn't unless you have supportive family ties here - which I would tend to assume not given your question.
People here are willing to offer advice and encouragement but will equally explain to you very candidly the pitfalls if you come in with a non-combative attitude. The choice is yours. IF you have limited means of support and IF your living here is going to be dependent on the social welfare system in any respect, this is absolutely not the place you should be moving to both for your own wellbeing and that of your children.

It's not actually. If I'm doing research myself and I ask a question or make a reply based off something I don't know and someone tells me to do some research I surely wouldn't take that as being rude. I signed up only to get simple answers. If I wanted to give you all my life story, then you can definitely buy my book. I'll message you the link if you'd like. 🙂 Other than the questions being answered, this thread is pointless. And if you all are in the VI, then I may reconsider due to the fact that you all seem quite salty and touchy. I'm sure it isn't everybody but sheesh. Y'all are making invalid points about cliches and drinking water and being poor...like what do you do in your spare time?? I'm so not for the negativity. So, you my dear need to tend to your own business. Perhaps go kick a few rocks down at the beach or something. Peace! Have a good day!

I didn't know you can tell that someone has
A combative attitude just by reading a post. The same advice that you're giving me, do me a favor. Take your own advice, twice!! Peace and have a great day!

1. Not at all difficult and particularly when the attitude is repetitive.
2. I moved here over 30 years ago and the advice I share here is based on advice given to me when I moved and years of experience directly and indirectly helping newcomers make a decision - and settle in to island living if their moving plans work out.
3. And you. It gives me no joy to proverbially beat the head against the wall and this seems one of those instances so good luck with your researching and hopefully you'll do enough of it to make the right decision.

Gigi, as a landlord I have housed very many newbies. I know first hand what they expect and what they have faced. I ask questions because I know what you will be facing. Most of us on this page do, and have spent years helping provide information. Don't worry about how we interact with each other. That isn't your problem.
Unfortunately, doing your own research is not always the answer. There is a lot of BS and biased stuff on the internet. A lot of misinformation.
You already know now that:
1 - You can't get health insurance for your kids
2 - Your children will be going to a sub standard school, unless you intend to home school.
3 - The food prices are 30% higher than the states - but EBT cards will help..
4 - The rent is expensive - but HUD vouchers will help.
5 - Airline tickets for the 5 of you to leave will not be cheap.
6 - electricity prices are probably 4 times higher than you pay now.
7 - you will have to have your own car. and insurance for it. At least gas isn't expensive any more.
No one is telling you that you cannot move here. Come on down. STX and STT have a lot to offer. For your children's sake, just make sure that you can afford it.
Something to consider:
Public schools here are struggling.
Many are in poor physical condition, teachers are underpaid and overworked, many buy supplies out of their own pockets.
There are gang members in schools that often provoke violence, the kids that graduate work hard and must overcome many challenges, students are predominantly black in our public school system.
There are challenges to living on an island.
Prices are higher for everything from electricity which is unreliable, to groceries, gas, rentals and depending on your level of experience, jobs that pay enough to support 4 children may be hard to come by.
One must have a car to get around as public transportation is unreliable and safari taxis don't run after dark. No health insurance is available unless you work for the government, a company that offers it, qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. It's expensive to fly back and forth to the mainland.
Rentals here are expensive, many private ones won't take section 8 vouchers and there usually is a long waiting list for public housing.
It is your decision to make as to whether these things are acceptable to you and your children. It's not all beaches and palm trees.
Good luck to you.

Nicknamed Vienna?
A little advice come on down without the kiddos for a few days, rent a car and drive around. Avoid touristy stuff (well maybe your last day go have fun) but visit grocery stores, Post Offices, etc. Check out how much things cost here. Get a room that has a kitchenette and cook some meals, live like a local, make some connections. If it suits bring the kids down and do another PMV. Take your time the VI isn't going anywhere. Take a look at the dept of labor website www.vidol.gov. You can get an idea on what out there job wise.
