Hi, I'm new to this sight. I'm looking to move to the VI in February. I have Section 8 housing voucher which is transferable there. Can anyone point me in the direction of any real estate or properties that accept Section 8? Also, I've been doing quite some research but I would like to hear from someone who has moved there what The process is and all the steps I need to take. It'll be me and 4 of my children. Thanks in advance and peace and blessings to you all !:-)

I don't think you'll find many listed online. Every now and then there is an ad in the Virgin Islands Daily News for a few, and you can probably access their classifieds online.

The Virgin Islands Housing Authority may have the listings. Google for their website.

Before you make any plans to move here with your children, suggest you contact VIHA directly. I don't have first-hand experience with the voucher program and I've never heard of anyone moving here in your circumstances but my understanding is that there is a VERY long waiting list for accommodation.

Why would anyone want to move to the VI to live in the projects?

Section 8 is not the projects. Many private rentals qualify for Section 8.

Many advertised private rentals specifically state, "No section 8 need apply."

Suggest OP do proper diligence on the cost of living in the VI.
Everything costs more, especially if you're raising 4 children.

I don't believe that anyone who doesn't know what island they are moving to is really moving to the VI.

hi

just wondering if you will have a job or not? what about schools and health care for the children? do any of the children have medical need? Do you have family here? do You know anyone here?

What is your motivation for wanting to move to the virgin islands?

oh, and which island were you thinking of

Yes, most private rentals do not take Section 8, but I remember seeing one in Daily News some time back. I almost never read housing section of the paper, but that one caught my eye as I was flipping through the paper.

I see one in Aug 3, 2016 paper. Cassi Hill. 3 bed/2bath. $1,500. 340.998.7514. It's on St Thomas.

All good questions from speee1dy but not the information the OP is looking for which is quite specific and which has been addressed. To many of us this is a most ill-advised move for an abundance of reasons but the OP has, "been doing quite some research" so let's not digress into interrogation mode.

Gigifreespirit, if you haven't already done so, carefully read all the information right at your fingertips in the drop-down menus top of this page. Given your particular circumstances, a move here warrants way more than "quite some" research. Good luck.

Precisely why I suggested further research rather than asking personal questions.

Please refrain from posting about something you don't know. Everything that comes to your mind doesn't have to come out of your mouth. Please do research before speaking on such matters. 🙂 peace and blessings to you! Have a great day!

Maybe you could explain to whom you're addressing these comments? The only person here who's doing any research is you as far as I can see and I think you've been given the answers to the questions you asked. A simple "thank you" would work unless there's anything else you need to know.

asking questions is not posting about something that is not known. it is asking question to better answer your questions. or maybe bringing up something you may not have thought of. why so testy

I don't believe that anyone who doesn't know what island they are moving to is really moving to the VI.

I was speaking to sunshine fun the person who made a comment about why would I move to the VI just to live in the projects. I forgot to click the quote button.

This is what I was referring to when I made the statement.
