On my walk to and from the tidepools from Carambola I noticed five billion gigawatts (can not help a good Back to the Future reference, sorry) of hermit crabs, happily rolling down the hill toward the sea. A mode of transportation? An oops? Just for fun?
Regardless, it made me smile.

Pretty sure they make a daily trek down to the beach and back up again. Some places/beaches have more hermit crabs than others. I was somewhere obscure on STJ a couple of weeks ago (Parrot Bay, maybe) and the clicking and blacking of them climbing either up or down all over this stone wall was nearly deafening.

bombi- i love writing kids stories and after this observation i thought it would make a great one! 🙂
and now i have some great info to help me get started writing (swapping shells, sharing, might just be the premise!)

swans what an adorable and tenacious little dude! the other night i had to come to a screeching halt in my neighborhood to let a huge crab cross the road. it just went skuttling by with its little legs, heaving its (hers?) oversized claw alongside. a precious moment i am not soon to forget.
saucey- i think it was around 4-5ish? i managed to not take the direct trail as it was stashed away in some bushes and instead ended up doing a tour of scenic road and then rock scaling 3 craggy bays to get home. well worth it..i found the most amazing tidepool that i aptly named Shibuya's Rest. but i think it was a little before sundown when i saw all the crabs tumbling happily downhill.

Funny thing is, years ago I had a dream about crabs marching to the sea. Maybe rhat will be reclassified as deja vous!

interesting dream, because there really are militant crabs out there. really, disney told me in their documentary "Oceans." which is quite good, despite that disney thing.

😀 The Aussie is quick! At 40 seconds into the video, he swaps from the lower shell to the upper. Looks like he may stay in his new abode!
