Heritage Manor STT
I have leased part of a building in downtown that used to be the old Heritage Manor on Snegle Gade. Our courtyard contains the cistern which used to be the swimming pool. Neighbors tell me they used to be able to see a fountain there. The building burned down several years ago and was rebuilt but has been vacant for years. Does anyone have any old photos of the place in its day as a rooming house? I suppose many of these old buildings were used as brothels many years ago (and still are). Any history? We have a permanent red exit sign which makes it look like the red light district. Please do not come looking for sex my wife is spoken for LOL.

For starters, that was never a brothel. The last thing is was was the guest house you mentioned. Before that it was called the Lion's Den. Will see what else I can find out. What do you plan on using it for?

I stayed there in 1991 on my first trip to St Thomas. As I recall the swimming pool was build into the area where the old kitchen chimney was. I don't remember a fountain, but then it was a long time ago! 😉
I would love to see someone fix it up!
The building has been renovated as an office space with a kitchenette on one floor and a shower on the other. My wife and I will open a drum center/museum with tours daily which will include demonstrations and background of many different types of drums and instruments from Africa, Brasil, Haiti, Cuba, etc, and, will include a hands on drum session with 15 real brightly painted conga drums. We will be an 'in town' activity which will be both interesting and fun. We will also offer sessions/tours for local groups and school kids. We have an application for the trade name 'The Afro Caribbean Drum Center' and plan a grand opening May 1. We are living in the downstairs. There are about 15 windows facing the harbor; what a great space! Here is a photo.
if it does not work just go to acdrumcenter.com

Sounds wonderful!! I can't wait to visit... Will there, perchance, be any summer activities for kids?

Hi, Islandlola, Summer programs for kids is one of many ideas we are tossing around. Do you have any connections or names? People have told us to check out Antilles school. We also plan on some grant writing to get people here. We will also have a late Sunday afternoon session with discounted or group rates for locals interested in drumming. If anyone wants to toss us some ideas or contacts we are brainstorming right now. Website soon come.

JJZ: Have you met Eddie Bruce? He seems to be *the man* when it comes to drums. Also, you need to check out the Traditional Indians when they rehearse, if they still do, at Vendor's Plaza for Carnival. Some drumming there, too.
Hi Jerry:
A visit to your place might be a really cool outing for cruise visitors or resort people, especially for families with kids--maybe some outreach to these sectors? Some steady tourist dollars could help to defray costs for local youngsters....
