well, after constantly looking through this sight for the last couple of weeks i have decided that i will be moving to st. thomas. my flight leaves on the 14th of october and i have actually convinced 2 of my friends to come with me, i was pretty impressed by that. i think that i have secured a job at a dive shop so i cant wait for that one, i also heard that the marriott hotel is hiring soon. they said that ill be getting there about a month before all the other seasonal employees start coming into town so im completly stoked to have the heads up in that market. but i want to thank everyone for thier post's. its amazing how many questions that i had that i didnt know about until someone else asked it. i do however have a few more questions if yall that are in st thomas can help me with i would definatly appreciate.

1- the first thing ill be doing when i get there is looking for an apartment to rent, but i need a place to stay for a few days unitl i find one, where would you reccomend staying, now im not looking for anything fancy, a hammock or a floor with not too many bugs would suffice, you know, something cheap. and close to where there would be easy transportation to find apartments/flats,etc. also if you have any #'s of places that would rock.

2- i want to get some transportation, im thinking a bicycle or a motorcycle/scooter about how much do each of those run down there, whats the gas prices, do you use gallons or litres.

3-are there any parties going on that weekend

4- does anyone want to have me over for dinner 🙂

once again thanks for the info people, keep it up.

Hello Michael,

Try a b&b or smaller hotel. Crystal Palace or Villa Fairview, Mafolie Hotel, Flamboyant Manor. Look in the housing section of the moving guide on this site - there are links and info there.

A bicycle is not an option for transportation on St. Thomas unless you live and work in the very same area and you are in one of the very very few semi flat areas. A motorcycle or scooter is feasiable... but roads are curvy and steep and we get sporadic tropical showers that are short but just long enough to get you soaked if you are on a scooter. We use gallons.

You can go out to a bar and find a party if that is what you are looking for. Duffys or Greenhouse are good places to start and then you can ask other party goers where other hot spots are.

All the best with your move.

To stay for a few days look at www.stthomasvirginisland.com. Wouldn't use a scooter or a bicycle. One of my tenants is selling a jeep for $2000. email me if interested. Good luck to you.

Hey Michael, my name is Matt I too am dropping everything here on the mainland and moving my life to the Islands, I have a hospitality degree and am also looking for a resort job. I really want to be on St.John but have heard such great things about St.Thomas I would live on either Island. I will also be looking for a place to live, I fly out of Chicago on the morning of the 20th, I will not know anyone there but it would be nice too, if you would like to get in touch before you leave then reply to this message, and maybe we could meet up out there-safe travels, see you in paradise.

Hi guys,
I may have an apartment available you can look at when you move out here, It's $550 a month, in the northside and really nice. I also may know of some career opportunities. You can email me if you're interested.
