Help! Working from home in VI for company in the states/ sales , how to file?
Does anyone know what a corporation that I work for in the US has to do/file or whatever for me to work here on St John? My HR department is either confused or jealous that I am working from here. If you do not know the answer do you know who I might be able to contact to find out what to tell them they need to do? I am in sales and I work from home and sell stuff in the continental US , any way , your help is much appreciated.

A forum is not the best place to ask for tax advice, but you're supposed to pay taxes where you earn the money which would be here in VI. If you have any income that was generated in the States you have to file a federal return and maybe a state return depending on amount and source of income.
Your employer probably won't answer for liability reasons. Filing is your responsibility. They just need to send whatever document they generate at end of year showing your income and you attach a copy to your return.
If you are generating sales only when in U.S. in different states then I think you only file federal.
Call the local IRB.
Maybe it's just me, but I got the impression the OP wasn't asking for tax advice. Sounds like they need to know about getting a business license. Of course, one leads to the other.
There are people who help people set up their business license, etc. I have been off island for a while, but the name I seem to remember on St. Thomas is "I'll Do It For You". I think you can find them in the phone book. If not, perhaps someone else can offer a number. You may not need anything special, at all, if you are a US citizen.
If, indeed, you are asking for tax advice, I would not call the IRB. I would call the local, St. Thomas, office of the IRS. If you do call the IRB, be sure to also call the IRS, just to be sure they are on the same page.
I thought the same as you, Juanita.
LeBron and Assoc (776-4678) always took care of my business licenses and I'll Do It For You (775-0635) has for years taken care of my car registrations. I've found both to be very prompt, professional and reasonably priced.
Please refer OP to tax advisers on St John/St Thomas. I get the impression op is an employee and not looking to start s biz.

I agree, sounds like an employee. That's why I said (s)he may not need anything special.
sounds like a question for an accountant
He can call our VI IRB to find out what his stateside company must provide and what forms to file. If he needs a good accountant, he can PM me.
My company isn't licensed to pay me if I work from here. Very few companies are.

So do you work as an independent contractor for them?
Not sure if this helps, but I found this on the IRB website, "Non-Virgin Islands Source Income of Virgin Islands Residents" 1040INFO It's for 2013, but you probably can pick one up for 2014 at the IRB, or wait a bit and see if they put one online.
The OP question does not provide sufficient information to know if the taxpayer is a Bona Fide resident of the USVI for tax filing purposes. Calling the IRS or the VI-BIR will unlikely get the necessary answers since it will depend on various individual circumstances.
A tax accountant in the USVI should be consulted to assist with individual tax filing and advising the corporation if any payroll reporting is required with the VI-BIR

Thats the current plan yes.
