Help Us Find a Home For Our Dog!
Just have to shake my head at all the moralizing going on in this thread and the rotten comments being made to and about the OP. Whatever he says or explains isn't going to appease the self-righteous chest-thumpers - and notice how so many of them offered to either take the pup or help find her a home?
The OP came to this forum in all good faith to seek help dealing with a situation and for the most part has been met with derision. I sincerely hope that all of you who say you would NEVER EVER give a pet away aren't ever faced with exactly that situation. The solution is don't ever have a pet.
I wonder how many of you moralizers were around in the aftermath of hurricane Marilyn in 1995. When flights resumed, people who'd lost everything descended upon the airport en masse to "get out of Dodge" and many, many people simply just let their dogs out around the airport to run free. It was a heart-rending sight which was seen throughout St Thomas as people simply fled the island and left their pets behind to fend for themselves. Thump your chests about THAT but don't leap on someone like the OP who comes to the forum with a legitimate request. He wasn't looking for an opinion, he was looking for help.
AMEN to that OT!

That must have been awful. Which hurricane was the OP running from?
I'd still like to know if the OP donated the $200 to the AWC.

Obviously something went right over your head. As far as the $200 is concerned, it's really none of your business but would an affirmation from the OP persuade you to change your lousy opinion of him? That's a rhetorical question ...
I understand just fine.

I do not see any one of the moralizing, self-righteous chest-thumpers offering to take this puppy into your loving home. If you are such animal lovers, like you say you are, you would have been banging down his door to take this puppy in. Instead you are sitting behind your computer criticizing him. One more dog added to your pet friendly home wouldn't hurt you. Or is that to much to ask of you?
If this is how you treat humans, I wonder how you really treat your pets behind closed doors.
Other posters, very nice of you to offer him good advice instead of criticizing him.
It's odd that passionate animal lovers decide that their time is spent better degrading people who are trying to make a responsible decision then helping the animals themselves.
Excuse me, but getting a dog and then deciding to abandon is LESS THAN A YEAR later is anything but responsible. IF you have been responsible, you would have thought it through and would not have gotten the dog in the first place.
You deserve all the flaming you get.
If you truly wanted to keep the dog, you could. There is always a way.
Good grief!
Then why don't you take the pup, NugBlazer or help find it a home instead of all this chest thomping, indeed.
OP wants to find a home, doesn't need to read all this other berating crap. Help OP find Bikini a good home.
That's all!
I knew it was a good idea not to get involved in this thread.

Yeah, why not, Nugblazer? Jaminson, stxem, SkysTheLimit, AandA2VI, too. Take this cute doggie in.
Did I miss somebody that are the ones criticizing him the most on this thread and not offering to take this puppy in at all? I'm sure you can find a way, you seem so passionate about it!
NugBlazer, there is not always a way to take an animal with you or to keep an animal that you have. Many issues can and do crop up during a persons life that make it impossible to continue care of an animal. If none of you can think of any than you have really been extremely lucky in your lives thus far and I am happy for you.
I know someone who found themselves homeless in the states. Lost their job couldn't pay the mortgage. Had no where to live-wondering what you would do ith a pet in that situation.
What if you suddenly had a health situation that made it impossible for you to care for a pet. i know someone that has spent the last two years in the hospital-what should they have done if they had a pet?

A rescue I'm involved with here in PA, bends over backwards to help dogs stay with their owners. We even drive hours to assess and help train the "problem" dogs (or more often, their problem owners) if the problem is why the owner feels he has to give the dog up. But in some cases, even we can see that an owner's situation makes keeping a dog impossible. In a few cases we've had to convince the owners to give up their dogs, for the sake of the dog. It's heartbreaking to all involved.
I respect everyone who is ardently against giving up a pet. I would give up just about anything to hang on to mine. "Just about" being the key words. We gave up a dog once - - after spending thousands on medical tests and trainers that did nothing to resolve his wanting to bite my year old daughter. It was devastating and against everything I believed. But walk a mile in my shoes, or some of our client's, and you might see differently. There's no point in repeating your philosophy over and over again on a message board. Why not put your time and enthusiasm into something that will actually help dogs stay with their owners? Respite fostering, education, training assistance, working with transportation carriers to make the process easier and/or/ cheaper, etc.
Good grief!

I've already got a dog and can't have another. If I could, I would take the bonded pair at the AWC I've been trying to get to loosen up. There are a few over there that I would adopt, that I know. My neighbor who I've been giving free training lessons to, so she doesn't get rid of her dog, might be my first choice also.
Why don't one of you people take it if it's not a big deal. It is a dog and a big responsibility and when you get one, it is for their lifetime, not for when they fit conveniently into yours!
4 million dogs a year in the states are euthed because there isn't room for them and people throw them away thinking somebody will love their dog for them. This dog is now in those statistics.
How hard is this to understand? If I had more time, I'd go walk more dogs at the shelter and I'm sure I'll be meeting this one soon.
You don't throw animals away.

Just an Excuse! If you wanted to adopt more dogs, you would find a way. Oh, you don't have the time, either. Another excuse.
See the OP has his own reasons for what he is trying to do and you have your own for why you can't.
BTW, other than that, nice work you are doing with your neighbor & her dogs and the local Humane Society.
