Healthcare and Abraham Lincoln...A Coincidence?
A long time ago, long before Obamacare, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed 'You may fool all the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time." He also commented that 'If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem.'
Did President Lincoln foresee the present debacle of Obamacare? It is probably just a convenient coinkydink but it does bring attention to the issues the country faces with this legislation and the politicians responsible for it. You get the sense not only of the futility of trying to fool the American people but also the danger posed to any politician who tries it. It's all about the 'average' folks and it's all about trust.
In the coming weeks and months, more of the impact of Obamacare will be felt by the 87% who were satisfied with their insurance, and the discord over the lies told to get this law passed will haunt the Congressional Democrats. When 87% of the 'average' folks like what they have, you don't mess with it to help the other 13%! Period.
When this law was proposed, many "Average" people shrugged their shoulders with complacency and thought: 'This isn't going to have any effect on me, I'll get to keep my insurance, my choice of doctors & hospitals. Maybe, it actually will bring down premiums - that'll be good. And the uninsured will get insurance, good for them.' We 'trust' the administration and they are telling us this so.......
Well that just ain't true and Obama & his administration knew it wasn't true, and yet blatently lied to all of us. That "miscalculation" doesn't sit well with most 'average' folks. People hate getting lied to and they they really hate being lied to about the lies they already know were lies. This fact cannot be denied.
The clincher is: when the lies cost you real money, real worry & a real disruption of your complacent real life - most people get angry, and anger has a bad outcome for those responsible - in this case 100% Democrat support, 0% Republican involvement. What has emerged as the truth is that the administration was seeking to finesse the reality, apparently well understood by administration officials at the time, that Obama’s health legislation would obliterate many individual plans, thus forcing those insured persons to seek other options. In other words, they lied to the American people and thought no one would notice!
Did President Lincoln see this coming 150 years ago?
good post but should have been under the coconut
i agree with you 100%
I agree 100%, but people can't say they weren't warned about what was going to happen once Obama was elected. "I'm going to fundamentally change this country" But no one who voted for him stopped to ask, what do you mean by "fundamentally"? Any time you hear any politician use the phrase fundamentally in a sentence you ought to know you are about to get screwed. But those same voters were more interested in participating in voting in the first black president, they didn't care about what he meant about sharing the wealth or fundamentally changing the country. They were more concerned about saying "we were instrumental in electing the first black president. The same will be true when a woman is elected for president and will probably be Hillary. If you think Obama's plans for the country are questionable, wait until she takes office. People are more concerned about break glass ceilings then they are about the politics of the particular person or party.
It's way to late to have buyers remorse now. Obama was not only elected, but he was re-elected because heaven for bid he only served one term as president and then got booted out because then it would make the country look racist. What irks me about the republicans is, stop the damn in fighting, stop the push back on Obama care, it's here, it's the law and whether you like it or hate it, you bought it by Obama getting re-elected. So stop trying to repeal it, fix the thing and take ownership of it. They were going to have to do something before making those 15 million illegals, legal they would need healthcare anyway.

He's treating a symptom and not the cause. He's making people pay for other people's mistakes. A real president like Teddy Roosevelt who was not afraid of big business or government laid down the law and flat out told the Rockefellers and the JP Morgans of the world how it's gonna be. Presidents like Obama are pussies. What he should be doing is telling the insurance companies to knock of their BS and that would be a good start.

I agree with the majority of what you have said but I don't agree with anyone taking ownership of this sinking ship. It needs to be repealed and replaced with a simpler, patient friendly plan that focuses on individual responsibility instead of yet another liberal 'entitlement'. Any legislation similar to this needs to be accepted by the majority of the population, not just those who are reaping the benefits.
The idiots who voted this in and continue to spew it's virtues voted out of office. This is government at it's worst. We are just waiting for our policy to be cancelled next year....along with the other 80 million that could experience the same fate. Our deductible just went from $1250 to $5400 because of the ACA. Same effect as raising the our premiums if you have any need to use the insurance.
WOW! Just wow!

You must have one of those junk policies that won't even come close to meeting the new standards because my deductible for family has been $5000.00 a year for years now and $2500.00 a year for single coverage.

You would think so but it's one of the top of the line PPO's with Blue Cross Blue Shield! They explained in the letter that the other shoe (increased premiums) could come next year and that this was being implemented due to the costs of administering the ACA.
Right now, the premiums are not too bad and we seldom use the insurance but now we are just paying for a plastic card. It is highly unlikely that I will spend $5400 in out of pocket expenses in 2014. The rise in the deductible is really a hidden rise in the premium cost, it just hits you later when you are down and out.
But, based on all the revisions, alterations, changes, manipulation of the ACA by the administration, and not to mention all the rhetoric, I am sure this will be fixed. I have all the confidence in the world that the rhetoric will solve ALL the issues for the 'average folks'.
WOW, I don't know, I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Health options and not only have my rates steadily increased $15.00-$25.00 a years for the past several years, my deductible has stayed the same.
