I am moving to STX in October, already have a home and job.

My question is this, and I hope someone can answer, I did not want to seem "greedy" asking this question to my new employer as soon as I get there. I know some states in the United States have passed a law that allow employers to cover significant others or common law marriage partners on their employees' health insurance, with an additional deduction from the pay check of course. When I say significant other, I mean opposite sex not same sex. I now live in Rhode Island, and they allow same sex partners on health insurance but not a common law marriage partner. Go figure!

My fiance and I have been together for 4 years now......lived together, both names on a lease, joint bank accounts, etc., which constitute a common law marriage in Rhode Island. Are there even common law marriage laws in STX?? Just wondering before I get there.

Dear Flounder,
No group insurance carrier in the VI offers dependent coverage for an employee's significant other of either sex. Ask your new employer for the name of the agency that handles the administration of the group plan and they should have some individual health insurance options for your fiance. Carl Gotts

Thank you very much for the quick answer. I figured that would be the answer but was hoping I possibly was wrong. Thanks again.
Does your agency offer individual health insurance plans and if so could you please send along some rates?
Thanks again!!
