Hi,

I apologize if this has been posted many times. I did a search and was unable to find anything.

Is it difficult to acquire a health card, meaning does it take a really long time? Also, how long are they good for?

My husband and I are coming for a PMV in July and are hoping to move in August or September. I am going to try to find work in the restaurant biz and I read that a current health card is required. We thought that we could get it while we were there in July. Do you think this is a good idea or should I wait until we are on island permanently?

Thanks for your advice!

Good post Island Girl. I too am wondering how hard it is and also what the process entails.

Thanks

For anyone who is interested in this topic, I found a past thread that answered all of my questions.

I just got my health card this week. I first went to the Beeston Hill Clinic(708 & 70) to receive the "medicine bottle" with the swab for the poop sample you will need to turn in. I paid cash in the $23.00 range for when you want the results of the sample. Then you take the paper with your results to the Health Department on (75) west of the city part of Christiansted, and they will get you an appointment to get the card. Be friendly and polite and try not to be shocked when your appointment is 2 or 3 weeks out. Don't be late for your appointment and listen carefully in the waiting area to hear your name called. You will then be sent to the cashier to pay that $30.00. My employer took a copy of my results in lieu of having my card until I received it. Good luck.

$23.00!! Wow. My lab charges $10 and it's ready in 3-4 hours. Thought things were cheaper in STX. I guess not!

things are definitely not cheaper on st x - your cost of living (basic items) will be just over 30% higher than average US costs.
Accomodation will be significantly higher as well.
there are plenty of posts on this subject.
