Hi All,

Can anyone tell me who has actually been to Hawaii, what the difference is in weather between the two besides hurricanes? There are certain things people say not to bring due to the weather in the USVI...and I wonder how comparable it is to Hawaii's weather...

Have been to Hawaii at least 20 times. Absolutely love Kauai, the Kapaa area. Much more expensive overall than the USVI. Weather is almost the same in both areas, including huricanes. My answer, I now live in St. Croix.

Amanda: The USVI and Hawaii are almost the same latitude (they are 19-22 deg, we are 18 deg), so the tropical climate is similar. However, there are differences in the Atlantic and Pacific. Also, the Hawaiian Islands are much larger than our little ones. But they do have the same windward and leeward coasts, wet and dry sides, etc. Lots of the climate is also dependant on your altitude. The top of Crown Mountain and the same height on Haleakela would have similar climates.

We just got back from Kauai and it was cold (70's) The water is most always colder in Hawaii. We have a house on St. Croix and enjoy the warm trade winds and the warm water. Each area has it's charm ( I love Hawaiian poke) so you need to find what's good for your life style.
