Hi all,
Well we will be coming to St Thomas January 26-31 to check somethings out. We have been on vacation there 4 years ago, but now taking some of your advise, we are coming to see how living will be. (going to the gas station, bank driving to work, going to the store for food and what ever else we need to do. If any one would like to have a drink and talk about moving to the Island please just e-mail me. I am 35 years old and been in sales for 12 years and coming down for a new opportunities my wife, name Welsley is 24 and a office manager for a doctor's office. She will be looking for a job once we move. We are planing to move in March or April once our home sells in Ohio. We are looking for a one to two bedroom place that is nice and safe, if any one has or knows of anything. We also have a small Yorkie that needs to make the trip with us.
Thanks
Island Explorer

Good for you! When you move, since you're obviously an animal lover you might want to get involved with our Humane Society. Great way to meet people & do some good also.

Lots of good opportunities here as long as you're aware that you'll probably work harder here than anywhere else & have some skills & are able to adapt to the island's ways. Top this thread closer to your arrival time. Where will you be staying?

William-

Just curious as to what part of Ohio you are from? My husband and I lived on STT for 2 years and have been back in Ohio for nearly 2 years now. We loved it down there but home was calling us back. Wish you the best in your adventures.

Small world...I'm from Dublin too (born and raised, graduated from Scioto in 1999) and have been living on St. John for a year and a half now! I don't know how much I could help you, since I never lived on St. Thomas, but I just wanted to introduce myself. If you two ever make it over to St. John for a day, let me know!

William, I am in the process of transferring to STT.
Unfortunately I am going to have to get rid on my buddy, Max the cat 🙁
(don't worry folks, I found a really good home for him).
The problem is that having him, severely limited my options for potential places to live. STT is not the most pet friendly place...
What I would suggest, go early, buy a condo that allows animals., that way you can move right in when you get there. You may be surprised and to that a small condo is cheaper than rent in a lot of places.
Also, I found absolutely no temporary housing that would allow my cat.
I am sure this would all be easier if I could have done this at the slow time of year.
So my biggest recommendation would be just that.....wait for the slow season.
Whatever happens, good luck with your move....I will be arriving on the 21st of January and if you want to have that beer with me, you'll need to come in the water.

Jay - just curious, but did you do a PMV? There really are animal-friendly places available here and particularly for an inside fixed cat or two. But you have to be here to find them. Just curious. I hope Max will adapt to his new home! Cheers!

William,
What sales field are you in currently?

Speaking of beer, have you been to either Barley's downtown or Dublin? Now that's good beer!

Thanks STT, Max will be a bit stressed for a while in his new home, he doesn't like a lot of activity and his new people have a very busy household. Poor little guy is used to a certain lifestyle.....hes never gonna see that again.
But he'll hopefully get used to it quickly and settle in. He has stayed with these people several times while I have been on vacation.
As far as a PMV, I am going to get one soon....hopefully before the end of the year.
The biggest problem was that I intend to buy a condo and with an estimated 45-60 days for closing and a January 21st reporting date, I was worried about finding temp housing that would accept a cat.
Couldn't really have him shipped at a later date either because the planes here do not have pressurized luggage compartments and the compartments are also not heated.....so hopefully I made the right decision.
I hope 10 days is enough to find a condo...I do know that by doing this, I have increased my options of possible places to buy.

Hi JW
I am a General Manager for a large retail store, it is a great company, but I am looking to explore life. I have always been a hard worker and since the age of 21 I have always work 50-60 hours a week. By the way what field are you in, and how long have you been in ST.
By the way, I have been to Barley's and It is good beer.

Hi OttsD,
What is bringing you down to the Island? Where about did your wife grow up?

William,
My primary business is medical sales here in West Virginia. I used to own a charter sail boat business in the BVI. Now I'm involved in land development in the USVI but I've never lived in either BVI or USVI full time. We thought long & hard about it a few years ago though. I admire & a little envious of the people that have tried it.

You'll get mucho info from the good people on this forum. I'm basically a resident lurker here I rarely post.

I wish you good luck!

she grew up in the hilltop area. she is a traveling nurse and STT is where the job is taking us first.
I formerly was a TV news director. Hoping to stay in the TV industry when we get down there.
