Hi all,

My wife is suffering from a nasty nasal yeast infection. We aren't ones prone to take prescription drugs and it has been suggested she try stinging nettle. Does anyone know if it can be found on island (STT) or of a good herbal store in general? Thanks!

You might try Natural Food Grocery at Mandela Circle.

If you can't find anything, a simple saline nasal spray will help and you can pick it up at any drug store.

islandmike,

I use what is known as a neti pot to clear my sinus cavities. Some people think it's gross or it hurts to flush the sinuses. Here is a link to understand more clearly what it does... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jala_neti
I suffered from sinus and sinus infections for years. I gave this a try for two weeks and have been doing it daily now for years. It uses a simple principle of flushing out all the molds and goop that we collect in our sinus cavities with luke warm water and regular table salt. (1/4 teaspoon of salt to 16 oz. of water) If it burns a little when using it cut back on the salt. For me the relief is amazing. Plus, you can't beat the price.

islandmike,
Yeast? I have not heard of a yeast nasal infection, but then again, who am I? lol! Yeast thrives on sugar, so most importantly that should be totally omitted. I know white vinegar to help with yeast. Gentian Violet is used for yeast, but it is a bright purple and very messy, so that option would be out! Maybe try a nasal spray with water and white vinegar? That may help.
As for stinging nettle, there is plenty of it! I have never heard of it being used for any remedy (YET)!
You could go to the health food stores and they often will have some good books to refer to, Good Luck!
