Handguns

Over the years I've accumulated a half-dozen handguns. This probably goes back to when I was a police detective a long time ago. Is it OK to bring them in with the furnishings - unloaded, of course - and keep them in your residence?

Also, do stateside credit card companies want to dump you when you move to USVI? If they do, I can see the logic. It's not a problem, I'll just need to pay them off.

I was at a trade fair on the UVI campus last weekend and saw a DSL provider's booth. I've forgotten the name. Anyone know what it might be?

Thanks.

Bill,
I don't know the answer to your gun question, but I had little trouble with my credit cards. Capitol One made the change with no problem. Providian had to be convinced that STX was part of the US. We had to talk to a supervisor at their call center to get things squared away. Until we talked to them, they would decline charges made in the VI.

Bill,

No, it's not OK to bring your guns in without a gun permit here.
You'll need to leave them stateside and apply for a gun permit (takes about 3 months), then have an FFL up there send it to an FFL down here.
You show the local FFL your permit from the police, and you get your gun(s).
Be aware that there are restrictions to the types of guns you can have here.
I'd suggest searching this board for "gun" and reading all about it.

Take care,

LR

Hello Bill,

You shouldn't have any trouble with changing the address on your credit cards.

As LR mentioned there is a thread with gun rules... the search option is at the top of the message board on the left - use that and search for the gun info.

Thanks. It seems lot of people don't see the US in USVI. :-]

Bills,

There is a reciprocal agreement between the USVI and other states that follows the same rules of transporting and keeping guns state-to-state. If you don't already have a permit, get it now and it will be good in USVI - UNTIL, you become a resident of VI, and then you have to take the necessary tests and apply for the permit there.

We plan to apply for the permit in VI upon arriving for our pre-move visit. That way, if we decide to stay, we'll be covered that much sooner.

Forgot to mention (but you'll read it in the link), USVI only allows certain gun types and calibers to be transported/kept.
