Hairstylist/colorist
Can someone recommend a great stylist/colorist on St Croix? Will be needing someone soon. thanks
I love Crystal (owner) of Indulgence. (340) 713-1489
I also vote for Chrystal @ Indulgence.
My wife likes Debbie at Under the Palms in Gallows bay
I used to go to Under the Palms and switched to Crystal. One of the reasons was the price -- almost half.
Joli at Monique's!
No question.....call Monique's Beauty Salon and get an appt. with Joli. She's fantastic and you'll look great!!
What are the prices at Monique's? I know at Indulgence it costs $150-200 for just highlights. They also charge $30-40 to wash your hair and style it. That does NOT include a haircut. Drying/Styling is not included in the highlight charges which is different than stateside. Make sure to ask the stylists for a quote. I did my first trip but wasn't told about the additional cost to dry my hair. Sometimes I just leave with wet hair to save the money. It seems odd to me that it costs so much to dry your hair. I can stop at Kmart and buy a hairdryer for the cost of drying it at the salon. But I am happy at Indulgence now that I know the charges.
Someone really pays $40 to get their hair dried? Are you talking blow out, like straightened? Even then it really should come free with a color. Usually stateside (at a nice salon) you can get cut, color, highlights (and your hair dried!) for $150-$200. I've seen all these salons on the island and would not qualify any of them as nice enough to charge those prices let alone skills. I don't understand how any of them stay in business. That is really outrageous. I would be ashamed and embarrassed to scam people like that.
As we say here over and over, this is not the states.
Just telling her what she needs to expect when she chooses a salon. Really no need to remind us that we can't get the same services here. I think we all learned that when we stepped off the plane. better to forewarn newcomers of the sticker shock.
I'm aware this is not the states. I'd bet money I'v been here longer then both of you. This is much like why the airline tickets stay so high, because people are paying for it. If women keep paying these ridiculous prices then the prices will never come down. But it's your pocket book, I would never put up with this.
Had my hair done in Nevada just recently (yes, Las Vegas...BUT...in the suburbs) and paid about the same thing I pay Crystal for highlights and cut. I don't think Crystal charges me extra for drying my hair. Sometime I leave with it wet, and seems to me it's the same. Not sure about that.
I pay less on STX (with Joli at Monique's, 2010-2011) for a trim and highlights than I did in Phoenix (2007-2010) or New Orleans (2003-2007). She does just as good a job as the other stylists I've had in the past, and you can't beat the view. She also offered me a glass of wine the first time I went there, which I had never been offered by a stylist before!
