Gun Laws
I am an avid hunter from Ohio and have a desire to bring guns (used for hunting on the mainland) with me to STT. Does anyone have any experience in doing so?
Before I came down two years ago, I inquired on VINow about the same thing, and Islander gave me a good summary of laws (should be on an old thread). After agonizing over it, I got rid of all my guns (although I often wish I still had one or two). There is not much call for hunting guns, and I don't know of any shooting clubs on STT.

There are two shooting clubs on St Croix and I know several people who are getting their license and registering their guns. It is a sad fact of life that there are MANY illegal, unregistered guns on the street here. Just read the police beat (every day) and the Judgement Day (usually on Sundays) sections in the Avis. I don't personally own a gun but my female friend is a member of a shooting club and she is considering getting a firearm. Just another opinion, another reality here.
There is one gun club that I know of on STT, it is called Bullseye 777-3500. It might be worth while to call and talk to them about the local gun restrictions. I am/was an avid hunter when living in the states and wonder if Ohioans has ever been to STT. When referring to hunting guns I assume you are specifically describing long guns, such as rifles and shotguns? I can see no use for either, as there is no real place to shoot unless you want to take a .22 to Bullseye. Handguns can be shot at the above mentioned range but that is aobut it.
Bullseye is a STT indoor range. Has 5 lanes. Very nice guy running it. I'm not aware of any outdoor ranges open to the public.
Bullseye does rent shotguns and other items (HK MP5) in addition to handguns.

Thank you all for your responses. I should have been a bit clearer in my original post. What I am looking to do is to relocate to STT but maintain ownership of my guns so that I can periodically return to the mainland for hunting trips. So the real issue at hand is
Can I own and have possession of the weapons in STT and if so, can anyone speak to the process of "registering" them.
considering what the salt air environment is going to do to your guns, you might want to think about leaving them in the custody of a friend on the mainland.
Here are the actual gun laws http://www.atf.gov/firearms/statelaws/22ndedition/virgislands.pdf
To transport your guns to the VI you will need to go a local gun shop in Ohio (federally registered) and have them shipped to a federally registered gun shop in the VI. If you want to store your guns at the gun shop there isn't anything else you have to do. You can buy ammo, shoot targets, etc.
If you want to be able to take the gun to where you live in the VI then there is a 4-6 week paper work process to go through to get registered.

Yes you have to pay for your constitutional rights in a u.s. teritory. Around $300-$500. Sad thought that only the police, criminals and a few honest citizens have guns in their home here. As far as your guns rusting in the salt air. Just take care of your weapon and you'll have no problem. I once had a cop threaten that she had a gun and would shoot my dog if it barked at her through the fence. How safe is that. She would run out of bullets before I ran out of dogs. I'll send you the form if you are interested in obtaing a permit to defend your home if you want. E-mail me for any more corispondence on this subject. Samper-Fi.
Isn't it "Semper Fi"?
Sorry typo Semper-Fi.
